As POTUS, what would YOU do?

If I was President of the United States, one of things that I would try to initiate, in the midst of the fiscal crunch, to drive the US economy forward and help lay the foundation for a strong and vibrant 21st century American economy, would be to create an American Infrastructure Bank to finance major P3 or Public Private Partnership projects, not just in terms of rebuilding a crumbling civil infrastructure but to build new large-scale infrastructure like high-speed commuter rail lines from and between major urban centers.

The Chinese and others with major dough, could then be persuaded that investing heavily in such projects will not only give them a guaranteed return on investment, but help drive the very engine of a global economic recovery because the USA is still that very engine, and thus it's in everyone's enlightened mutual best interest to see to it that the USA enters onto the path of a sustained and even a robust recovery.

Now of course some may argue that you don't want China owning critical US infrastructure, but the deals could be made such that there is a time limit of a certain number of years after which their ownership and profit sharing would expire.

And so voila, you have a fresh TRILLION dollars or more going into the modernization of the US transportation infrastructure while at the same time making room for suburban and rural development all along those corridors. This would also help to create commuting job opportunities outside the inner city and help provide a "way out" for those trapped and mired in the inner city cores.

A similar thing could be done (P3's) in terms of data communications and wireless infrastructure so that every school desk in the country gets an interactive touchscreen to faciliate accelerated learning whereby the power of computer networking has yet to be tapped as a valuable education tool. In this case you could involve, not the Chinese, but Federal, State and Corporate involvement by companies like Verizon, AT&T etc, to build a 21st century information superhighway for schools, thus placing the USA at the bleeding edge of the Information Age, with an Education system geared towards the jobs of the 21st century and the technological age.

Those are just a couple of ideas I was kicking around and wanted to share.

Of course the various laws and Executive Orders that were enacted in the wake of 9/11 ought to be very carefully examined and in some cases repealed in order to restore civil liberties and individual privacy protection rights and freedoms ie: what the hell are all those nerve centers doing and why are they operating independantly with little or no oversight, thus making the likelihood of abuses of power and the use of information about citizens against them all but a certainty because where's there's power (and information is power), there are always supreme a-holes anxious to abuse it, like those bullies in school who become cops for all the wrong reasons.


What would YOU do?

Being rare, unique and all powerful, I'd don a unicorn outfit and trot about stabbing congressmen withwild abandon and great amounts of joyful glee.

That, and put real value AND DESIRE into wanting home grown products, made by home grown nationalists. At the moment there is unparalleled desire to own all the latest high tech Asian-made and priced products, when I think much greater worth could be garnered of a locally made product.

Oh I have a very good idea of what I'd do if I had the power of the President.

I'd tell Congress, both houses of them, to go write a new version of the U.S. Tax code that can fit within a pamphlet for size and have it by the end of the year. If they fail, then in turn, I'd order my (executive branch and all) I.R.S. to stand down all enforcement activity as I told the American People to pay whatever they thought their Government was worth until such time as Congress DID produce a tax code simple enough for any average person to understand and explain to someone else.

I think mine would be an impeachment to set all time records for speed and bipartisanship in Congress. Yup.. In and Out so fast my head would spin..I'm sure.

yesterday i went to get some food at a local restuarant and ordered a beer, the served me out of the tap into a 12 0z glass for the same price as a pint at the pub. If i was president the minimum pour from all taps would be one pint.

i would start lifting gun restriction and give the power back to the people

i would come down on police forces that are indicated in police brutalty inncidents.

i would ban all gmos

i would raise taxes on all pharma companies drasticly but placing laws to protect consumers from the raised taxes
and using the tax raise from pharma companies would invest in more natural healing methods.

raise gas prices so people would get up off there Fat@sses and start riding bikes and walking

The president has no real power; he is placed before the people to act as a focal point and provide a contact for people. The president is the head of a corporation but is on a short leash from the Board of Directors. What happens on Earth, you know, the hidden agenda and it's being carried out, has nothing to do with political leaders. Politicians are sold out to a system, that allows them to make money, as long as they play the game and provide a phony front line for the masses.

Also, along those high speed rail corridors, at at their "spurs" you could have brand new, fully integrated, model communities, which is the kind of place that anyone would want to live, raise children, etc. etc.

What's needed is something on par with the Interstate Highway System for a 21st Century America, as a type of JFK "moon shot" ie: before the decade is out, we will do such and such to position the USA within the framework of an increasingly competitive global economy and LEAD the way forward..

I would also examine every matrix that goes into the formation of successful small businesses and make sure that the banks and lenders are not still witholding credit now that we're on the cusp of a sustained economic recovery. You have to provide every incentive for those with great ideas who want to start up a startup to go ahead and get it done, and existing small businesses who are successful they need to be rewarded somehow, so as to spur hiring of additional staff. I have no idea what that policy would look like, but creating a small business committee to take a look at that IS a good idea, contrary to what Mitt Romney had to say about it.

To start, I'd promote the end of the extreme "division" in America, try my best to get the citizens to be more united together. Nationalism is what they call it right? To promote the end of petty bickering, partisan disinformation from news outlets, and maybe give the states more power based on what the citizens want.

Eta: I'd also promote personal responsibility and accountability across the nation.

No sane person would want to be POTUS. Only a manipulative, egotistical power hungry con man would want that job, or could do it.

We have 3 branches of government, all corrupt and working to screw over the American people.

Now, offer me the offer me the role of Benevolent King Supreme and I can tell you exactly what I would do right before returning the power back to the people with a strong possible foundation of liberty and economic security.

The reasoning behind the ideas I offered in the OP was that, if you want a vibrant 21st century American economy you need to figure out new and smarter ways to move people, goods, services and ideas throughout the nation which simultaneously honor and protect their freedoms and right to personal privacy ie: stop feeling them up at the airport.

I would bring Brass knuckles with me when I face congress...

I'd tax the rich and make them pay for roads,bridges,birth control pills,education, and everything else their little hearts desire.

That would surely "stimulate" the economy.

First I would double my Secret Service detail. Encase myself in bullet proof armour. Then I would set up a factory to make small steam engines powered by the solar furnaces blue prints from the UN. I would connect them to used alternaters from junk cars to create electricity from the sun. I would also remove safety regulations from preventing them from use. I would provide tax credits for battery's and inverters to store and make usable that electricity. I would also have additional factory's made so we could ship these devices overseas. You see it is basically old technology that works but no one can get a patten on. Far better then solar panels. It could be used anywhere there is a yard. It would provide manufacturing jobs for the country.It would solve our electricity supply problems. It would also solve our electrical infrastructure problems. However I suspect I would be dead one way or another within a week of me ordering this.

Theres enough for a station every 100 yards or so. 3 armed men to a tent. 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off, rotating. They're military, they can handle 2 weeks in a mobile type unit with a small solar power station and Chemical toilet. When off they get one week off and one week of training, then back for 2 weeks.

I would do my job as laid out in the Constitution. I'd make sure the Congress don't overstep their bounds and that they represent the will of the people. Outside of that the president doesn't really have much power. At least traditionally speaking. My beliefs and opinions shouldn't matter as I'm there to serve the public, not myself.

What you describe sounds like planning a huge turn off for investors of US debt. Why would anyone agree to that?

Foreign debt on this scale is not simply something you can walk away from. As Americans we can file bankruptcy on our own smaller debt because we our all caught up in the beautiful insured monetary system, but outside of our own little bubble are governments that have their own problems to take care of and expect reasonable returns on their investment.

the dollars value is down but the value of other things in America may still be just as valuable in consumption as it has always been and some things there will always be a demand for. The last thing we need to do is continue propping up this illusion of value, rather than true value in things in our lives.

I also fear that the best thing for america right now is enabling people to live off of less, and quite a bit of money goes into energy consumption that isn't necessary. We need to make the leap and stop screwing around with energy ideas.

I think we also need to satisfy people everywhere in deep profound ways by releasing a lot of information that will not only help them in life but reveal things hard to imagine and perhaps rekindle a tiny ounce of trust.

We have so many people afraid of falling to other forms of government, but with everything being carried about in the same corrupt bag of crap, what is it that really makes us different. (other than constantly involving ourselves in warfare)

So why aren't we using it? Why are we all sitting around scratching our heads wondering what is REALLY going on?

This unemployment issue could perhaps be swallowed if, let's say.... light bills started coming down.

They are insane if they do not understand that even if they lost a LOT of money churning out solar panels to the public in manufacturing, they would be ELIMINATING cost and waste for decades to come and be greatly taking a stand against poverty.

The problem is you can't see the return on paper, but it could literally save American society through a bout of true and dire hardship.

In the age of having machines do so much for us, job creation becomes wasteful fluff. There are many meaningless jobs out there that indicate that the employment issue is only going to get worse. Cowards drag it out until they get out of office but you know people can only make so much crap... until they're at a point of just producing waste.

We need to make good on our outside debts, forgive our own, get people in houses and give them food and let the reassessment of our true value commence. It's long overdue.

Right now everything seems so screwed up because we are living a lie. We do not have to. We can help situations overseas, we can make good on promises and stop passing the buck, we can find once again what our best resources as Americans are and we can take care of each other, but I think first we have to start by just upholding those principles.

Stop patching the problem and really fix it.

How many more times over do we need to prove we can destroy the world?

No one will ever have what it takes to stand down the corporate machine except maybe Jesus if he would come back... but maybe they will rust and crumble in their own time. Sure, they will patch them every which way and maybe that will keep them from falling too hard but everything comes down eventually.

Enough with tricks and formulas. Help the people at least get what they need and get off dollar dependancy. Impress the people with some fresh honesty. Stay out of wars because if you teach diplomacy over war, then you raise thinkers- not fighters.

The first thing that I would do is admit that 911 was an inside job. Then I would hire an army of guys to protect me and my family.

Bring all of the inside info of global warming to the public eye.

Expose the big banking cartels.
Let the corporations know in no uncertain terms that they are not people and they will be held to very high and strict standards, that if they cannot stand up to they will be dismantled or fed to the corporations that do have standards.
Start a revolution in gov't bringing back the hard working level headed ideals this country was founded on.
