Robertson: Bush Said No Deaths in Iraq

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says he warned President Bush before U.S. troops invaded Iraq that the United States would sustain casualties but that Bush responded, "Oh, no, we're not going to have any casualties."

Robertson, in an interview with CNN that aired Tuesday night, said God had told him that the war would be messy and a disaster. When he met with Bush in Nashville before the war Bush did not listen to his advice, Robertson said, and believed Saddam Hussein was an evil tyrant who needed to be removed.

"He was just sitting there, like, 'I'm on top of the world,' and I warned him about this war," Robertson said.

"I had deep misgivings about this war, deep misgivings. And I was trying to say, 'Mr. President, you better prepare the American people for casualties.' 'Oh, no, we're not going to have any casualties.' 'Well,' I said, 'it's the way it's going to be.' And so, it was messy. The lord told me it was going to be, A, a disaster and, B, messy."

In a statement for the Kerry campaign, adviser Mike McCurry said Wednesday: "We believe President Bush should get the benefit of the doubt here, but he needs to come forward and answer a very simple question - was Pat Robertson telling the truth when he said he didn't think there'd be any casualties or is Pat Robertson lying?"

Robertson, the founder of the Christian Coalition and a candidate for the Republican nomination for president in 1988, said he supports Bush's re-election and believes the president is blessed by God.

"I think God's blessing him, and I think it's one of those things that, even if he stumbles and messes up - and he's had his share of goofs and gaffes - I just think God's blessing is on him," Robertson said. "And you remember, I think the Chinese used to say, you know, it's the blessing of heaven on the emperor. And I think the blessing of heaven is on Bush. It's just the way it is."

In January, Robertson told viewers during his "700 Club" television program that God had told him Bush would win re-election in a blowout." In the CNN interview, Robertson said he believes Bush will win by a "razor-thin" margin but a substantial Electoral College victory.

God is lying to someone. Either Pat or Bush. I would have more trust in Bush if his "Faith Based Initiative" gave money to someels besides Christians (Jews, Muslims, etc) and didn't Clinton go to church every Sunday, and Bush has gone, what, twice? I just think we are in bad shape when religous zealots run, or try to run our country.

Sometimes I think this NWO stuff might be true. Is Tony Blair supporting Bush so he can get unto the Carlye Group like John Major? Sorry, that's another thread. Anyway, these Christians like Bush and Robertson really freak me out.

Who's lying?

"We believe President Bush should get the benefit of the doubt here, but he needs to come forward and answer a very simple question - was Pat Robertson telling the truth when he said he didn't think there'd be any casualties or is Pat Robertson lying?"

Is Robertson that controls the conservative 700 Club broadcast and influences millions of fundamentalist votes lying? Or is George Bush lying? George said he's not lying, so he must be saying Pat Robertson is a liar? Right?

Pat Robertson's followers deserve clarification on this I do believe.

Pat Robertson is a greedy Charlatan. Bush is blinded by his own light. Robertson needs to stay tf out of politics. He's absolutely useless.

Even though I'm a religious person (in my own peculiar way), I'm really sick of people who use religion for their own political agenda. IMHO anyone who thinks God is telling them what to do, in the political arena, should have a little mental health check-up. I'm not saying God doesn't move people...but these people that USE God as an excuse for their agenda, their viewpoints, their PROFIT...just drive me batty.
So, it seems that God lied to either Pat or George W. or, more likely, Pat and/or George W. just lied.
This whole thing just ticks me off. I don't like the idea of America being run by a bunch of fundamentalists. I don't mean to offend people, but I have to wonder what their motivations really are.
As for Pat Robertson, that man scares me! He's as phoney as a 3 dollar bill. Don't even get me going on George W.

WOW you mean God actually talks to both of them? Thats pretty twisted stuff folks, the last time a war time leader of a major nation was spouting that kind of crap was Germany circa 1937. God told him to Invade Iraq and Afghanistan. Does that not scare the crap out of you guys? War in the name of righteousness while the ink dries on the new laws eroding our freedom, mandated by God no less. Maybe the money halliburton and all its filthy little susidary scams should then give their war profits to god since he has led them to such divinely gained profits. A no bid contract for world domination from God... I hope the christians are wrong about Jesus returning to earth, cause he's gonna be pissed off when he gets back, and to be perfectly honest, I don't know that we are on the right side of the fence this time.
