China!

Anectdotally, Israel (although absent from this poll) has also been mentioned as one of the very few nations that, too, would have preferred Romney as president.

It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes level perspicasity to know what is implied here...

Odd how Israel is not mentioned in this poll, though places that have no great relation to America are polled, places like Taiwan, Philippines, Finland ect. Very odd indeed. Maybe DailyMail know they would need a full article dedicated to why Israel are not happy Obama won

I think we can only deem OP's outcome as a positive

That's funny, just yesterday I saw a UK journalist who had dinner with someone with links to Chinese governing party and the suggestion was that China preferred Obama, because they viewed him as more malleable, more level-headed and more morally driven than Romney.
They believe that Romney is under too much pressure from his party and business, while Obama is more concerned with the welfare of his people (something the Chinese government doesn't really understand - sacrifice the minority for the betterment of the nation).

I can tell you from Toronto Ontario Canada, 7 out of 8 people i discussed this morning, are glad that Obama won, 1 said "it sucked, but whats the different who wins".

Then again, i saw 2 Canadian on ATS that were for Romney, so it will vary according to Province.

Now just gotta a find a way to kick the Anti-youth Stephen Harper out!

Obviously - Romney supports increasing Defense and neutralizing "foes" in the middle east. Anybody who feels that Romney would have been the better choice this is a clear reason why not - one can easily point to the senseless, bureaucratic Middle east wars from the Bush era as a direct culprit to the financial debts that the US is now burdened with.

Of course China perfers Romney. If I were from another country, I'd root for a guy that outsourced his countries jobs to us

Not a surprise at all. Most countries want America to fall. Why would China want America to fall when most of their economic growth comes from selling their goods to the US? Common sense, really. America has done horribly under Obama, so countries that hate the US (which is most of them), LOVE Obama.

Heh heh, the flipside to that belief is that China and Israel are the few countries that still care and respect a past it's prime America that they don't want the country disgraced by having a black for a president.

Entire populations are never polled, but rather statistically significant samples are, so what's your point.

As to the OP, actually the China result did sort of surprise me -- was expected Israel. Guess the Chinese know or think Romney is a businessman who would readily sell his country out to China as he has done on a smaller scale with Bain Capital.

I also imagine the Chinese do not like recent speeches and policy announcements by the Obama administration about fighting Chinese power expansion in the western and south Pacific. Not that Romney would likely behave differently in the context. Perhaps because Romney said that Russia is our biggest global threat/competitor, the Chinese were hoping for a clueless US president who was still stuck in the Cold War with the Soviet Union. Didn't Romney, at some point in the last year, mistakenly make a statement about the Soviet Union, when he should have said Russia?

China wanted Romney because wars in the oil fields benefit them greatly - as they are the number one petroleum market. Obama is more apt to stop playing the role of military proxy for China. Romney clearly stated that he was more than ready to move onto the next nation in the oil pipeline to China... Iran.

Now we'll have to see if China has the guts to fight their own battles for oil. If they invade Iran and Pakistan... then we'll know.
