President Barack Obama handily defeated Gov. Mitt Romney and won himself a second term Tuesday after a bitter and historically expensive race that was primarily fought in just a handful of battleground states. Obama beat Romney after nabbing the crucial state of Ohio. The Romney campaign's last-ditch attempt to put blue-leaning Midwestern swing states in play failed as Obama's Midwestern firewall sent the president back to the White House for four more years. Obama picked up the swing states of New Hampshire, Michigan, New Mexico, Iowa, Wisconsin, Colorado, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Ohio. Florida and Virginia are still too close to call, but even if he won them, they would not give Romney enough Electoral College votes to put him over the top. The popular vote will most likely be much narrower than the president's Electoral College victory. The Obama victory marks an end to a years-long campaign that saw historic advertisement spending levels, countless rallies and speeches, and three much-watched debates.

Ok, that was fast.

I haven't been following the election very closely.... I just saw this on the news.

So this is it? Obama is re-elected for the next 4 years???

Meh, whatever...

Like it matters which puppet gets into office, pfft.

They're all being dangled and controlled by the same bloody marionette strings anyways.

Do you guys still believe that any president in today's day and age could or would make a difference ? The last president that attempted to cut the puppet strings was JFK... and look where he ended up. Just imagine how even more controlled these politicians have become 50 years later, especially now that we live in such a globalized society.

Nobody has a hope in office anymore... quite frankly, I don't think they ever did.

Yes, I'm a "glass is half empty" kinda gal.

FIVE THINGS OBAMA MUST FOCUS ON NOW:

1) Fight Voter Cynicism

The nearly even split of the popular vote shows just how much
the average American man and woman finds him or herself at odds
with their friends, their neighbours and even closest family members.

I have seen the bitter partisonship and stark divide between RIGHT
and LEFT and Red and Blue that has given rise to a great questioning
and disbelief of the whole political process.

I have seen the young so turned off by bitter politics that they
have effectively tuned out, refusing even to exercise one of their
MOST BASIC RIGHTS....THE RIGHT TO VOTE!

This must change! BOTH parties must now INCLUDE
the voices of the disaffected. Using an analogy, it is said
that the Church and Charities do their BEST WORK in
the gutter. This means politicians MUST reach out beyond
preaching to the converted by stepping OUT of their
white-bread existence INTO the stinky crap of the
AVERAGE daily existence of Jane and Joe America.

For Democrat and Republican alike, leave your crisp white shirts
and fancy suits behind to WALK in the shoes of your fellow American.

It's time to figure out that the USA in general is a nation of people
who just want to keep their head above water enough to breathe
well and have enough left over to look forward to and actually
ENJOY their two weeks of yearly rest. The average American
doesn't give two hoots about Iran or Corporate Tax Credits

They care about JOBS and they care about the Weather.
They also care about keeping a ROOF over their heads
and food in their stomach. As the President, Obama
NEEDS to focus on the INTERNAL finances of America
and the JOBS (or lack thereof!) that come out of having
GOOD financial accumen. The USA is an UNMANAGEABLE
economy as a gross (i.e. large) entity. All the president can do
is give the American PUBLIC and Commercial Enterprise the
TOOLS and KNOWLEDGE to do that financial management
themselves! The rest will take care of itself!

So reach out to the YOUNG while they're young!
Reach out by educating ONE OF THEIR OWN
to SPEAK for and ABOUT politics and government.
Educate the young about WHY government IS
important and give reasonable hints as to HOW
they can BECOME INVOLVED, going as far
as getting the YOUNG to shape official policies
regarding their place in American society.
The older more educated American NEEDS
to INCLUDE and TEACH the young and inexperienced
how to act and behave in the American political and
business sphere!

2) The Urban/Rural Political and Financial Divide.

Over 50% of Americans live in URBAN environments that
TEND TO BE overtly DEMOCRAT/LIBERAL and wealthier
than the overwhelmingly Republican/Independent POORER
rural residents.

And those RURAL residents are being INCREASINGLY
ignored and marginalized by urban society. This will eventually
give rise to far-right extremism and even further political divide
as basic rural services get cut by government AND commercial
enterprise. There will come a day where those rural residents
will say enough is enough and effectively SECEDE from the
greater American political, financial and personal sphere.

I think YOU can figure out what happens when 40% to 45%
of your population consistently gets ignored and relegated to
literally living in depsair out in the boonies. You get insurrection,
violence and exclusion! And that is a FACT borne out by situations
in many hells hole countries on Earth where intentional rural/urban
division and wall raising gets you bigger problems down the road.

It's time to INCLUDE rural and small-town America into the urban fold.
Give them their wideband Internet, easy access to roads and city
level infrastructure and services. ISN'T THAT EXPENSIVE YOU SAY?
YOU BETCHA!!!!! But spending a few pennies spent on an ounce
of poverty reduction is worth preventing a WHOLE LOTTA POUNDS
of violent rural revolution!

3) The Rise of Machines and Lowering the Education Level Bar for Humans.

Too many Americans think and EXPRESS their opinions that
ALL OTHER Americans are Deaf, Dumb and Blind!

This breeds elitism and EXCESSIVE intellectual/social stratification
which pigeon-holes far too many into severe class distinctions that
breed discontent and generational continuance of intellectual and
financial poverty.

Too much naval-gazing intrusion by really smart people into
the daily life of the Average American
is grating on some collective
nerves and raising the blood pressure to extreme levels.

The overt reliance of a SMALL but elite class of near-sociopaths
upon ever-increasing levels of technology and the panopticon such
Big Brother tools (computers, robots and cameras) brings to daily
American life is CAUSING a rapid disconnect between Joe and
Jane America and an intellection/financial elite who THINK they
have the right to tell us what to do and how and when to do it!

In fact, that elite is INTENTIONALLY trying to "Dumb Down America"
and this MUST STOP here and now. If that means using some EXTREME
measures, then so be it! because I can TELL YOU that a small elite with
access to powerful computers and nearly-invincible robots IS BAD NEWS
for the rest of us!

The solution is to STOP lowering the bar of basic education.
STRICT adherence to standards that reflects a broad spectrum
of knowledge required to function in greater society is required.

It means we NEED to have more of a focus on Readin', Writin' and 'Rithmetic!
It also means MORE basic and EXTENDED social studies
and education about the political structure and history of America!

When 80% of Americans CANNOT name the first ten amendments
to the Constitution of the United States which give YOU basic
inalienable RIGHTS, then THAT is a BIG PROBLEM!
An educated American is a GOOD American!

We also either must limit excessive autonomous computerization...OR...fully
ensure that ALL Americans have access to ALL the technology they
need to ENSURE that the job and financial playing field is LEVEL
and NOT overly skewed to the machinations of elites and special interests!

4) The Business of America IS BOTH SMALL AND LARGE BUSINESS!

The President AND/OR the Government CANNOT CREATE JOBS!
It's NOT their JOB! NOR SHOULD IT BE! What IS their job is to
enable and write POLICIES and GUIDELINES that bring CONFIDENCE
to BOTH small and large business such that the OWNERS and Shareholders
will feel confident that their investments WILL offer a desired profit.

This confidence in Presidential and Governmental policies will EMBOLDEN
entrepreneurs to CREATE and INVEST in businesses and the accompanying
JOBS which will PAY enough taxes that desired public services can
be PAID FOR and continue to be on offer as required or requested.

A confident small and large business community creates an environment
which welcomes investment and job creation which then creates confident
CONSUMERS and a larger rising economy.

Since job creation and business investment IS a realization of the effects
of individual and collective CONFIDENCE, the BEST THING Mr. Obama
can do is to get rid of red tape, set basic nation-wide STANDARDS of
technology and communications, in addition to setting up WISE rules
for commercial and financial transactions.

THEN public investment into high-capacity highway and railway infrastructure
along with wide-bandwidth OPEN communciations systems will let both small
and large business GET ON WITH their business!

ONLY THIS will give the Average American what they want
...A means to gather and spend MONEY on goods and services
that will MAKE them Happy or at least, give them the OPPORTUNITY
to become happy! And in America that means Americans NEED
reasonably paying long-term JOBS based upon smart and forward
looking INVESTMENT by a CONFIDENT business community!

5) Fair Trade NOT Free Trade!

Countries such as Canada, Germany and Japan ARE NOT
your enemies! They are highly developed, financially astute
AND generally play fair on the trade front. This benefits
American consumers and promotes mutual dependence
and beneficial fraternity.

Trade with CHINA and MEXICO is NOT FAIR!
Poor working conditions for workers, corrupt governments
and unfair or undemocratic financial/political pressures upon
business transactions is the BANE of the American worker
and is CAUSING an unsustainable race to the bottom.

It's TIME that leaders of American industry AND the general
consumer learn that Freedom AIN'T FREE! Letting trade
that EXCESSIVELY UNDERCUTS local wages or destroys
the local environment IS THE PROBLEM!

It's time that the REST of the world realize that we are
NOT the world's dumping ground for the output of slaves
and polluters. WE MUST start raising tarrifs on Chinese
and Mexican imports that would DAMAGE the well being
of American workers if left unchecked!

When tarriff rates go up enough, companies will either
bring work to America OR bootstrap the lives of THEIR
workers up to OUR levels! This is good for both the
QUALITY of Goods and Services AND good for the
continuing well-being of American Workers!

Amen my northern brother!

That was an awesome read. Why didnt you make that into a thread? You made some awesome well articulated points. I cant disagree with one thing you said, im sure plenty here will but you nailed it on the head.

I think there are a few others things to work on but man you laid it out. If our country did these things we would be better than we are now. Stars for each post.

I just want to say a THANK YOU

To America.

At least half of you are not crazy.

To those who voted Romney, WTF??

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

It's a shame that everything Obama tries to do will be blocked as Repubs control the house and will continue being spiteful and petty.

Oh well.

Oh well. I was hoping for the best, but not surprised by the worst. If there is a bright side to this election, at least the GOP retained a solid House majority to act as a counter-balance for a couple more years.

Well as most on here know, and sadly very few 'out there' know, it is the same hand that controls the strings for both of these puppets and the whole left/right & democrat/GOP thing is pretty much a nonsense and an illusion. We keep arguing over this and politics becomes more polarized and voters become more entrenched.

While all the while, all of the money funnels up to the top of the tree/pyramid.
All of our rights and freedoms are eroded, and the elite/1%/rich few who own everything, keep plotting and scheming away.
