This has been going on for a few weeks now and I wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing this and/or if there is some explanation for it.

Intermittently, while on this site (and it only happens here), there will be a split-second flash. It seems like a white box approximately the size of a UPC code on my screen.

I can't tell if anything is written on it, or if there is any image associated. It does appear to sometimes have "black streaks" in it as if it could possibly be text of some sort that my eye is just barely catching.

Anyone?

It's unrelated to anyone's signature/avatar/uploaded images.

It appears randomly and in different areas of the screen.

Why would this be related to a particular browser? It only happens on this site... but yes I've been using Chrome for a long time now and this just started happening in the last 2 weeks approximately.

Only happens to me via Chrome, and it was after their last update.. so I just gave credit to Chrome..

waiting for them to fix it in their next update..

A new update is available. There was news about it just 3 hours ago.

We'll see if that changes this behaviour. Still odd that it only happens at this site.

Anyone else care to expand on what "IT" is?

I have no clue... it only pops up now and then when scrolling down a thread page for me...

It hasn't set off any security elements that I use on the PC so I just assume it's a browser glitch..

Maybe someone more tech savvy can chime in to help you more..

I use Chrome almost exclusively - in Win and in Linux and have not encountered this problem.

I've seen it in Chrome. The above poster was right, when you are on a page with someone that has an animated .gif for an avatar, and you scroll the window really fast up or down, you will see a white flashing box.

That is the only time I have ever seen something close to what the OP describes.

It also happens when there is an animated advertisement. I think it is Chrome related issue, not ATS related.

Yesterday I had a white flash the whole entire screen and it happened only on ATS but it kept happening all day not happening today but one thread keeps getting me an annoying text box and I really can't get off it after that because it keeps popping up and acts like a virus it is some kind of scripting error text box. I hate it!!!only 1 thread does it the thread I didn't believe in Zombies until Sandy

Also I am using IE9.

Hi ATS fans.

For the screen's flashes, check where the arrow of your mouse IS, if/when you
scroll down with the "arrows" and/or the "Page Up" and "Down" keys of the keyboard !

The position of the mouse's arrow often makes menu items flash on the screen. . .

Blue skies.

Do not worry about it, it is just a photo of you and your room being taken.

Yep - I use Chrome and it happens all of the time (again within the last few weeks and on sites with .gifs)

If you want to see it go all mad on ya ass go to the "Avatar Creations" thread in my signature and do a fast scroll of the page using your arrow keys - certain pages within that thread are like lightening shows!!

**WARNING: May cause epileptic seizure***

Interestingly enough though, once you scroll the whole page it does not occur anymore when on that page - just the once when you first get there (the aforementioned thread is a working thread so quite often you are scrolling the same page to gather info etc)

Glad to see its not just me - thanks OP

Thanks for asking this question, I've been wondering.
It started a over week ago for me too. At first it was a super quick flash in the center, but lately it's slowing down. The boxes have been all different sizes. Mine are a black and white tiny checkerboard pattern, they appear in all different spots on the screen. Today it did the whole screen flash like someone above mentioned.

I also use chrome.

I was going to post saying this has never happened to me, but then I was reading this thread and I now see what you're talking about, it appeared for only a split second but as far as I could tell it was a b/w checkerboard box, there is an animated gif in that thread, and it did look like it appeared in the same area as the gif.
I also do use chrome (v22).

ETA: I just noticed I can reproduce it. When scrolling down the page, using the keyboard arrow keys, if I release the key when the gif is on the screen the checkerboard appears.
edit on 7/11/12 by Kr0nZ because: (no reason given)

it could be for tracking purposes, a hidden iframe or in the _javascript. Sometimes you use a small hidden or 1x1 px image to track i.p.s.
