Downward spiral into the Abyss
Darkness that no longer glistens
The pain inside festers, and I cry
Shedding tears, though no one listens.
Loneliness keeps pace beside me
Fittingly, tis my only companion
Through mountain tops of highest peaks
And descent into deepest canyon.
Light is gone. My soul is withered
I cry out for succor and peace
But darkness here does not answer
And death brings the only release
Throughout the long night, I trudge forward
Dragging myself to the edge and beyond
Counting the hours measured in millennia
Till I joyfully see the dawn.
Dark night of the soul, at last you are done
This world weary traveler may sleep
But I cannot help but wonder
What monsters lie before me in the deep.
