Hilo if anything, may get it the worst. Don't think we have any members from there to give reports, though I was just there yesterday.

Radio station from Hilo is saying people are still heading to the bay trying to get a look, and that waves are expected for hours.

An expert is currently stating wave #1 is always the smallest. Look for wave #3 or 4...

Live Cam of the waterline

Oddly, they keep talking about a surge and drop, but the live cams aren't showing anything? This one with the long beach and hotels has a sandbar or something out there that ought to show changes real clear. It hasn't gone under or been exposed to any real degree?

Now there is a guy down on that and it is a sandbar.... It's the "Hawaii News Now" link. I guess the guy at the waterline with a flashlight isn't too concerned?

He was also talking about the channels and how the surge will need to find its level around the channels and the islands, which means that even the backside of the islands may experience a surge.

There is nothing between the epicenter and the islands except open water, nothing to diffuse, so I interpret this as, "well we really need to wait and see"

I don't think there's gonna be anything to worry about. We should be fine. The news guys on the radio are really struggling to make this interesting. It's kind of funny.

Can't believe the chaos on the streets here, all for nothing. 4 car accidents in one hour because people were driving and updating their facebook status to "Evacuating".

jeez....next time they will struggle to get anyone to evacuate. i personally would go whenever they said. i think the big picture next time will show a lot fewer leaving.

If anything, it's amusing how much the media gives away in regards to their monitoring capabilities during such events. One can extrapolate exactly how good the 'civilian' capabilities are; what range of motion the cameras have, the rotational speed, their level of fidelity, how far they can zoom and focus, color/light balance in a low-light environment, etc. and then they use it with their tablet so you realize it's a networked real-time system. It'd really suck if someone hacked into that with, say, time lapsed footage. Lol, screw the play, I'm much more interested in the wings. Yadda yadda, let the game of silly buggers resume. Obviously I'm a crazy lying druggie.

Not really I just got back to my house up on the hill and I'm not leavin till the wave recedes.

BTW, this won't be a huge deal. It's gonna be a few feet. Some peoples boats will get damaged, some docks might get hit, but this isn't anything to be fighting at gas stations about.

But just for context...what I saw at the gas stations 45 minutes ago was dozens and dozens of cars packed at the pumps. People were calling the radio show and saying there was panic at the grocery stores.

No hope for people here during an actual situation

People are stupid.

That is my entire thesis.

I need to get away from these things.

Seems like a solid thesis. Do you mean stupid as in dumb, stupid as in ignorant, stupid as in unintelligent... ;p

Now you must work on your numbers. 7.7 isn't 8.3 or 9.3.

And umm... I predict there will be a pretty severe aftershock. Cant say when, or where.. but I feel it in my jinkies.

I seem to remember that after the alleged 9 off Japan that a tsunami was expected to affect Hawaii then, too.

You would have thought that the wave that radiated from it would have been equal in all directions.
But, Hawaii and the West Coast US might have had a foot or so wave action from that.
Which never made sense to me.

Oh, did you ever have debris from Japan wash up in Hawaii? I remember the story and "photos" of all these houses and cars and such that was headed outbound. As if.

Who else other than Hawaii was supposed to be affected by this tsunami?

News is so skewed these days by the media, we need real eyes on the ground to get any unbiased reporting of anything.
