Children to be taught 'heterosexuality not the norm' in Australian schools project

www.lifesitenews.com

Australian school children are to be told that heterosexuality is not the norm, according to a new education department pilot program called “Proud Schools.”

“Heterosexism” is one of the evils that the Proud Schools program is intended to stamp out, along with “homophobia and transphobia,” education officials have said. According to the minutes from the Proud Schools steering committee on March 22, 2011, the program focuses on reversing “the dominance of heterosexism rather than on homophobia.”

I for one am sick and tired of seeing this agenda playing out. I'm not homophobic in any way whatsoever, I know gay people, but it is wrong to promote the idea that homosexuality is normal. We know it is not right, it is not natural. I may come across as contradictory with that but I honestly do not mind if someone is gay, but at the same time you cannot 'educate' children into thinking it is normal. We all know it is not normal and it almost certainly is not natural.

If people are gay, then let them be so but don't indoctrinate young children into making them think it is right and normal.

A similar program is already in use in Victoria, called the “Safe Schools Coalition” to “support sexual diversity”.

Proud Schools recommends using Personal Development, Health, and Physical Education classes, starting in Year 7 (12- and 13-year-olds), to “incorporate learning about same-sex attraction and sexual diversity.”

The Telegraph’s Miranda Devine wrote that “at least” 10 Liberal Party MPs are “extremely concerned” about the program, and will complain to Education Minister Adrian Piccoli this week.

Devine quoted Upper house MP Fred Nile who called the program “propaganda” and asked the government to defund the program.

“I’m totally opposed to the brainwashing of high school students, especially when they are going through puberty,” Nile said. “Homosexuals at most make up 2 percent of the population - I don’t know why the education department would give priority to promoting this.

“We will have more confused teenagers than ever…children should be allowed to develop themselves,” he said.

As mentioned above, children going through puberty are learning about themselves and developing, education should not be indoctrinating them to think homosexuality is normal.

What do you think?

Now, you could actually check out what the program suggests instead of getting your "news" from nonsense sites like lifesitenews...because if you do, you'll realise they aren't saying heterosexuality isn't the norm.

It's a program aimed at decreasing homophobia...

No, I read some parts of the program and it is clearly saying sexual diversity is to be accepted.

It is telling children that sexuality does not matter, that all are equal.

Take from it what you will-

The program defines “heterosexism” as the practice of “positioning heterosexuality as the norm for human relationship,” according to the Proud Schools Consultation Report. “It involves ignoring, making invisible or discriminating against non-heterosexual people, their relationships and their interests. Heterosexism feeds homophobia.”

I really feel that this pilot program is wrong.

Instead I think they should promote individuality and diversity. I think they should promote that no matter what sexuality you choose or how you were born; it is your right to be who you are...no matter if it is heterosexual, homosexual; or bi-sexual.

Respect an individuals right to live as they so choose to.

Subjecting children (or anyone) to just one way of thinking is very narrow minded. Present all the choices and as the child grows up; allow them to make their own choices.

Yes...people are supposed to be equal, just like blacks and whites. Mostly because race or sexual orientation isn't a choice, so it makes sense to promote equal rights and going up against homophobia makes perfect sense.

So your point is??? Are you against equal rights?

I wonder...can someone from Australia help us out with what the numbers down there state the Homosexual % comes out like across the general population? The documented and supported estimates up here have quite a range, running 3% to as high as 8% that I've seen. Unsupported numbers go wild...but that's why we call them unsupported too.. lol ..

Is it higher or about the same down there?

Personally, I think we've seen so much outright HARM come from the attempt to just keep sexual activity private, where sexual topics rightly belong (grumble grumble) that by now, it's really pointless to keep playing that approach at all IMO. It was a good idea...maybe..long ago, but it failed.

Tolerance is whats left as the only alternative to playing like it doesn't exist at all and letting the kids handle matters with their own far less than mature tools to do it with. I personally will never cross over to acceptance. That's a bridge too far and the LGBT community can deal with it if that just isn't good enough.

However... Tolerance...is a radically different thing and I define that as absolutely 0 hostility (including subtle clever kinds to say it really wasn't meant that way with a wink and a nod
) ever shown to anyone over Race, Gender, Sexual Orientation.....and the rest. If they aren't hitting on you, as a straight person, and knowing it's not welcome? If that is NOT happening? What exactly are they harming by simply living right along side everyone else? ....as if somehow they don't have the right (as some out there in society seem to insist)

Acceptance is earned. Tolerance is human decency. People need to start being decent to each other....no one is asking for big hugs on sight, IMO.

"HETEROSEXISM FEEDS HOMOPHOBIA".

I'm sorry but that mantra is BS.

Hetrosexuality IS the norm, that is what nature intended it to be.

Homosexuality should not be taught in schools to be equal to hetrosexuality, especially when the people being educating are experiencing puberty!

What the hell?!?!!

Like the school program or not it just means parents have to be parents and teach their children according to their belief system.

People like you are the reason young LGBT kids can't accept themselves or come out to their families and friends, and/or even worse, end their own lives.

Which you obviously disagree with. How quaint.
Tell me, what other criteria do you use to rate people on their level of equality?

YOU ARE WRONG

I have never bullied anyone in my life and tolerate gays and treat them equally as human beings, but I do not agree with teaching school children going through PUBERTY that 'HETROSEXISM FEEDS HOMOPHOBIA."

How can you educate children that homsexuality is normal?

They aren't "teaching homosexuality" or making kids gay...they are teaching them to be tolerant and not to discriminate again gays...just like they did a few years ago with blacks. Are you against tolerance? Are you somehow of the opinion that this will turn kids gay?

Are you a bigot? Because it sure sounds like it...

Homosexuality is normal because clearly there's thousands of people who are naturally born that way...and it's not even unnatural as it happens in nature too...A LOT.

I'm wrong it your eyes, not mine and not in the eyes of many of the other people around the world who accept people for who they are and realise that homosexuality is just as normal as heterosexuality. What makes you say it isn't normal by the way? Oh, and thanks for 'tolerating' the gay community, I am sure they appreciate it.

'HETROSEXISM FEEDS HOMOPHOBIA'

There is a difference between tolerance and teaching children as young as 12-13 that homsexuality is normal.

Big, big difference.

Well, it is normal...not just in humans, but also in nature. It's not a choice, so since it's a natural occurrence it means it's normal

Yes. Yes, it does.
And you seem to be a heterosexist. For the record, I am a heterosexual who is not a heterosexist.
