They gave us stars and flags, but where is the muzzle?

It seems to me that ATS is in need of a muzzle for rude, obnoxious, hateful trolls. We as posters and viewers have the ability to give positive attention to those that warrant it, sure we can ignore certain people, but wouldn't you like to see a muzzle icon to click next to the star? Or be able to give a black star? I am just amazed at the rude responses sometimes. I know I don't want to say what I feel to these people and I don't want to flood ATS with complaints, Just give me a muzzle icon and I will be fine.

What say you? Do you agree with me?

Or, a muzzle icon next to the OP, when redundant threads, like this one, pop up...

Or be able to give a black star?

Why does it gotta be black..?

One man's "rude" is another man's "opinion".

Urgh, don't give me respect Beezer, that just goes straight to my head

You're right though, there is a fine line between being rude and having an opinion that is somewhat abrasive.

Abrasiveness is ok, rudeness, not so much.

The reason our staff is so diverse is so that we can have a multitude of opinions before taking actions on what one person considers to be " ill-Mannered"

a·bra·sive (-br s v, -z v) adj. 1. Causing abrasion: scratched the stovetop with an abrasive cleanser. 2. Harsh and rough in manner: an unpleasant, abrasive ...

rudeness noun The state or quality of being impudent or arrogantly self-confident: assumption , audaciousness , audacity , boldness , brashness , brazenness

Just wanted to make sure he understood the difference between the 2. The fact is, I don't think either are very becoming to exhibit and show a lack of maturity and class. When, someone has taken the time to formulate a thread, they put thought into the process. It just isn't polite to trash them with flippant responses, rather if you read a thread you don't like, leave. My mother taught me if you don't have something constructive to say don't say anything. Hence, my desire for a muzzle.

In any case thanks for the replies.

We, as members do have a way to deal with the trolls on this site; its called the "alert button". You can find it by hovering your cursor over a member's "member" box and selecting the very bottom option.

This sends a message that every mod will see and if that member broke a rule here on ATS, they will be dealt with accordingly.

There's also my preferred method of dealing with trolls and such here on ATS: just don't respond to them.

There's nothing they hate more than when the person they are trolling doesn't take the bait. Let their obnoxious comments sit there, ignored and show everybody who is the better person.

I agree with you on every point you made, but I also stated why I would love a muzzle button. To send a message to those loud and clear and to not bother the MOD's with my silly alerts.

There used to be an 'ignore' button that you could press to permanently block all posts by the ignored member. They did away with it in 2010 I think. Although it was a nice feature, it had it's setbacks. It often made threads confusing to read when either you'd ignored someone or had been ignored by someone.

Although it took a hell of a lot for me to want to block someone(most of the time), I can appreciate why this feature was removed from ATS.

I had a similar idea and posted it as a reply to an OP just a few days ago:

Maybe add a red X button next to the star. Allows members a choice to 'X' posts they found offensive or distasteful..

I would like to be able to see what other member think of a member while I'm reading a post from them. Although I wouldn't take it too seriously... I'm sure people wouldn't limit their distribution of X's to only rude posts.

How about you just ignore the posts and replies you don't like?

Or stop taking stuff so personally?

You know, don't feed them?

I don't take it personal. I don't like it period no matter who they do it to. I find it very unbecoming. They want negative attention so I think a muzzle would satisfy that, I am open to other possibilities. This is a rant forum so I ranted. I also have been letting the MOD's do their thing. But if you will notice I suggested this as a way for me to deal with it without bothering them. Rude obnoxious people can be ignored all day long but that doesn't mean you don't read what they said initially.

You say you don't take it personally, and then go on to explain why you do.

What I meant by ignore is not to not read the post, but simply don't reply to it. Don't let it effect you. Let it hang all by itself.

I disagree with your suggestions, because a lot of the time a troll is in the eye of the beholder. If somebody really is a troll the mods will deal with it. They have trolldar.
