Mobile phones can cause brain tumours, court rules

www.telegraph.co.uk

A landmark court case has ruled there is a link between using a mobile phone and brain tumours, paving the way for a flood of legal actions.

Innocente Marcolini, 60, an Italian businessman, fell ill after using a handset at work for up to six hours every day for 12 years.

Now Italy's Supreme Court in Rome has blamed his phone saying there is a "causal link" between his illness and phone use.

I believe this is the first time an actual court has ruled that mobile phones can cause brain tumours.

I've always had a bad feeling about mobile phone use, I always keep my phone well away from me when I'm in bed.

British scientists have claimed there is insufficient evidence to prove any link to mobiles.

But the respected oncologist and professor of environmental mutagenesis Angelo Gino Levis gave evidence for Mr Marcolini — along with neurosurgeon Dr Giuseppe Grasso.

They said electromagnetic radiation emitted by mobile and cordless phones can damage cells, making tumours more likely.

Like GMO, this could be a medical time bomb as pretty much everyone uses a mobile phone.

No real proof on my half but whenever I have a phone close to my head for some time, something doesn't feel right after using it. Doesn't bare thinking about the damage mobile phones could be doing to our bodies.

Doing anything for 8 hours a day for 12 years can have a negative impact on the body.

Example. I use a keyboard every day, when and if i get carpal tunnel, do we seek to ban keyboards?

Mind you, keyboards are probably one their way out
soo one could infer we will develop better wireless technology as well.

Here is an important point in the article you have appeared to miss.

It is non-cancerous but threatened to kill him as it spread to the carotid artery, the major vessel carrying blood to his brain.

Tumors are not necessarily deadly and not only localized in the brain, they can be treated. Still a bad situation.

Little Winking face for ya buddy

Is this the same court which tried geologists for manslaughter for failing to predict an earthquake?

Seems the Italian judicial system isn't real big on science.

Who would have thought that placing what is basically a miniature microwave next to your brain for 12 hours a day could have some negative effects?

Time to throw the slave made trinkets in the trash can folks.

Or stop using the cell phone so much.

Not exactly a microwave oven. The power density is quite a bit lower.

I don't understand how it can be proven that a person on mobile phones who got a tumor got it from the cell phone. There are a lot of variables, like the fact this guy was on the phone for six hours a day, that could cause a tumor. Our bodies have to be stimulated to attack tumors, they often cannot identify the cells since they are our own cells. I know that stray electrical signals can cause tumors, but I do not see how someone can prove it was the cause in a specific case. Anyone who spends six hours a day on the cell phone isn't that smart. Many people can't understand that spending that much time close to any transmitter of radio or data waves isn't good for anyone.

You don't usually stick your head right next to a microwave oven though
At least most people don't.
We got rid of our microwave a few years back, it's actually a more interesting life without it. We sit longer in front of the stove electric coils though, there are waves of energy coming off that too. You can't win no matter what you do. Keeping the cell phone use down to fifteen minutes or less a day is advisable.

Of course they cause brain tumours. I've talked to three people who have had brain tumours removed over the last few years. I ask them each time, "which side do you place the phone up to". It's always the same one.

Just use speakerphone, and don't place it in your pocket or near your person.

Come now, quit with the intellectual dishonesty, Phage!

You said this:

I never said that three people proved it.

No.
I was using sarcasm to point out that your statement was absurd.

It wasn't absurd, it was a statement of fact.

What is absurd is that you seem to be implying that an observation is not evidence.

Go bark on someone else.

This argument is silent.
