well if enough of it is melted away to release gas and dust...how much more do you think would be necessary for it to break apart ....ever see ice crack when you suddenly pour hot water on it?

I would be worried of fragments breaking away from it once it completes its loop.......you don't want many smaller size rocks/ ice shooting around that close to earth.....or even the asteroid belt....they could cause a domino effect in which other fragments are hit and cause chaos to shoot around.....

We have heavy light pollution in the Philly area, but Lancaster PA is just 1/2 an hour West of us and the darkness around the Amish farms make for great sky viewing. We don't go to private farm property. We can just take our telescope and pull in off the road out there and get a great view.

This comet won't need a telescope, but I think having one will make it even that much better.

I remember watching Hale-Bopp and thought that was awesome.
And this is supposed to be even better!

This will come in between the earth and some outter satellites but it isn't supposed to hit.
Considering this is a new comet and it's 14 months out, I'm wondering how much the
path will change as the scientists get more information.

Anyways .. this should be awesome to see!

i know i'd die laughing when the boot drops.

You DO have to wonder about the timing, right?

Disclosure can come in many different ways. What better ways than the ETs to come riding in on a converted and magnificiently illuminated asteroid? No one on Earth will be able to ignore the sight of it. You will not even need a radio, TV, cell phone with apps, or word of mouth from your neighbors that something momentous is in the works. It will be right there, before your eyes....

Think you must have misread the article. It says if the sun were scaled down to earth size, the comet would be close enough to pass between the Earth and the satellites, it won't be anywhere near that close to Earth.

I can't believe no one called the Hopi Indian Blue Star Craziness yet. My money is on that for biggest hoax to arise from this comet.

That and Hamarama-ding-dong calling it a black hole or some other nonsense.

I remember going out to visit my grandparents out in Amish country. It made for amazing stargazing out there. I sat out in the cold night air with a big fluffy dog to keep me warm and marveled at how many stars I could see and cursed light pollution for making it impossible to see such a sight but a few times a year.

I wish I could have bought my grandparents property when grandpa passed away. I would love to go there and do some comet watching around Christmas with the extended family I have now. It sound like this is going to be an unprecedented show for my lifetime. Ha and no I don't believe this is Nibiru! I believe in a lot of strange and goofy things but this ain't one of them. So of course I'll be wrong and we will all be annihilated.

Awesome. Two great comets next year - I'm excited as heck! That is, assuming the Mayan doomsday Prophecy which doesn't actually exist doesn't cause everyone to lose their minds in a couple months, thus causing a zombie apocalypse and effectively "proving" the non-existent MDP correct.

Ahem...methibks I'll be seeing two awesome comets next year.

The Earth runs into thousands of tons of spacerocks and debris every year.
Most comets are on repeat orbits, they do not disintegrate just because they come close to the sun.

they always try to put some fear into the story by saying crap like if was scaled down to the earth it would hit satellites.

that's b.s. 1.16 million miles is 1.16 million miles.

it would not hit satellites orbiting the earth, it wouldn't even come near the moon. the moon is 238,000 miles away.

1 million miles is not a close call. 30 miles from hitting earth is a close call.

So will the ice and debris from the comet tail happen to lay a path Earth might pass through eventually? Will spectrography be available to ensure there will not be any dangerous materials? None of that Wormwood crap.

LOL. My EXACT first though. But aside from that, this is awesome. I hope I don't miss it like a lot of other things going across our planet haha. Sounds like one hell of a sight to see!

Chris Niburu will not crash into the earth it's passed us several times before and didn't then and it won't this time either, consider your self and others here to be able to witness what will happen on 21st December and the human race will not go out of existence either, enjoy the rest of your time on planet earth, this thread is not closed!

The blue star kachina as predicted by the hopi indians as end times has already been detected by nasa who claim they don't know what it is (whateva) the hopi indains are now waiting for another sign a red star and apparently there is a star caled beetle juice that is getting read to implode and when it does we may feel the sholck waves here on earth, so then there will be a red star in the sky proving once again end times as predicted by the hopi indians they have waited 200 years apparently fo the blue star to appear, they are not scared of the end times and neither should we be they are actually looking forward to it and say it's going to be beautiful so i know i'm looking forward to it.
