Look, I make my own fair share of post that damn the government and their policies, and as anyone who knows me, I am staunch Constitutionalist. I see Obama and Romney as a Pepsi and a Coke, and why can I not have a Orange Crush, or a Dr. Pepper? (thanks, Jessie Ventura)
My computer has been hacked a few times in the past, but no real warnings, or anything like that. I do use multiple proxies, so tracking a post from day to day would be difficult. I figure when I get too close, autowrench will not appear in here any more, and there is nothing any of could do about it unless they were privy to my real identity.
As for CIA/NSA watching these posts, make no mistake about it, they do. I would bet there is a team that reads ATS posts every single day. So, my advice? Be loud, and be truthful. The Emperor is naked, folks, tell everyone.

Why do you keep saying I am paranoid? You don't have to try to pin your own paranoia on me, don't worry I won't tell anyone.

What would I do if someone else posted something worthy enough to cause their family to try and get them into proper care for an evaluation?

I'd applaud and feel safer at night.

When a dude goes all postal people start freaking out because nobody did anything to prevent it. Then they start in with the MK-ultra crap.

This guys family did see warning signs and did do something about it.

How did the world react?

They made the guy a martyr and now we've got Feds under our beds.

Freaking comical.

Well I have to say I read about 10 or so comments and I'm going to assume it isn't what you were hoping to hear.

I bet you thought or were hoping it would be more like this.....

"We'll save you!"

Sorry bro.
If you get the feds or some other spooks knocking on your door you're on your own. Nothing personal but well lets just say we'd miss you. Hell I would even start a thread in your memory.......would you like that?

Okay then when the feds take steel49 away we all have to promise to miss him and post a comment about him on the thread. deal?

Anyone that started a thread saying, "They're here, they finally got me!!" would be labeled a hoaxer, thread buried.

No one would do a god damned thing, except maybe ask for pictures, and by then it's to late.

We are all on our own, as they meant it to be. Best advice: have real world friends that would not let it go, because here you will just be named as a hoaxer that tried to make a splash. Unfortunate, but true.

From what I see in those threads, it looks like the posters likely stirred up some drama, true or not, and got themselves banned.

This is the Internet. Sometimes real life causes people to go off in different directions for a while, sometimes people lose interest and move on to other things, and sometimes people go off the deep end and get themselves banned from stuff. That is just how the Internet works.

and reply to www.abovetopsecret.com...

I think paranoia is usually a delusional fear of something that is not real, or getting excessively fearful of something that might be a real, but not really worth being excessively fearful of. It happens to all of us once in a while.

If someone is really fearful because they really did something wrong, then that is not exactly paranoia, but more like waiting for the inevitable ball to drop on them.

As far as being paranoid about posting on the Internet, the reality is that ANYTHING that ANYONE posts ANYWHERE on the Internet is going to be read by EVERYONE. You have to think of that every time you type, even if your post drifts into oblivion. A wise person once told me, every time you type on the Internet, assume you are typing something that will end up on the front page of CNN. And don't type something you would not want on the front page of CNN.

It must be assumed that all government agencies will see everything you type anywhere. To assume confidentially is delusional. All they have to do is use something like Google alerts for keywords that have been used in crime, and they will have an endless supply of people to investigate.

So, use your head on-line, keep this in mind, and you will be fine.

Well sad to say but in the years I have followed ATS, I would say its run by the goverment, and is very pro muslim so not a lot would happen if you were taken.

Go back to class then, and learn how to truly make someone paranoid. Suggesting paranoia make work with unsuspecting people.

I'm surprised 101 didn't give you the tools to cause paranoia on the rest of us.

I like the CNN comparison, insightful.

Someone said earlier, stay within the T&C's and there is nothing to worry about. I like this, the T&C's are a great general guideline.

But all of this is not without saying, I would love to know if someone is really approached, what they wanted, what they said and what all the HYPE is about.

That is the most hilarious and accurate depiction of ATS and it's various probable responses to the OP's question! I hope you get APPLAUSE for that one!

To the OP - we're not allowed to ask for personal information (nor to give it either?) on the ATS Rules; so, essentially, we'd have no earthly idea who you were or how to help you. As another poster suggested, that's where your REAL-LIFE (vs. online life) friends and family come into play.

Well, there isn't much anyone could do about it except for raising public awareness. But I know that if I personally was taken in or just disappeared my family and friends would not rest until I was returned to them. They would form a huge posse so big the officials would be wetting their pants at the sight of so many angry people. I can say this from experience: When she was a toddler my oldest child was taken by her sperm donor's family. Instead of law enforcement I called my kin. Needless to say she was immediately returned and we never heard from them again- they were too afraid!

I believe that is also where selection takes place. I think they would be more likely to "take" someone whom had a smaller circle of friends and family, if being "taken" for minute reasons. (Which I don't see happening, just stating hypothetically.)

You snatch someone for essential "freedom of speech" with a larger family and friends circle and it would be broadcast, recounted, investigated. (Again, hypothetically.)

If they start taking people who are talking negatively about the government, power elite then I am screwed......and no one on here will do anything, since no one will be aware that it is going on.

People will just start disappearing.

The very first rule of being annoymous is to take FULL responsibility for what one post here on ATS.

Freedom is a power and comes with responsibilities to others.

With the power to post our thoughts freely here on ATS, to speak one's mind and stand up for it, it comes with SELF RESPONSIBILITY for one's own actions.

If what we had wrote and posted is untrue or written with malicious intent and not due to ignorance, then we alone are responsible and NO ONE else is to be blamed or shoulder that responsibility for us.

Being anonymous only gives us the freedom to post our thoughts with no expectations or intentions for rewards or acclaminations, and most certainly not the freedom to hurt or harm innocents.

Thus, be responsible for standing up, or don't post if one has fear or less than honest convictions that cannot stand up on its own.
