Very clever, I love the name of the boat "bottles up."

There is NO good use for a plastic bottle EXCEPT to pollute our already polluted environment.

The best bottle is one that is environmentally friendly by being biodegradable. Nuff said.

not as cool as the bottle bridge or bottle boat, but you can use a plastic bottle of water to start a fire. You turn the bottle upside down and focus sunlight through the curved part near the cap of the bottle. works like a magnifying lens.

S+f for this,i was amazed,so many uses.It looks like the human imagination has turned this "curse" of plastic into a blessing.I dislike plastic, but seeing it Is here, and not going anywhere, how excellent that it has so many beneficial uses..that island made from plastic bottles as a base,is so heartening to see.A lot of homeless people may yet find shelter if these ideas could be implemented on a larger scale.

Thank for the Solar water heater idea. Its amazing. I want to make a direct solar water system on my flat roof. It will not be as large as this. It should fill a sink with hot water in the summer when its done.. Maybe I will make a thread on it,,,,

Seems to me it would be the same stuff I used on my boat for transducers underwater and to seal feedthrews.

3M™ Marine 5200 Adhesive Sealant

Good stuff.

I agree, however,

May as well put them to some good use since they are already here.

Besides, it's interesting to see what people have come up with.

Ran across this several months ago.

It actually works!

This goes to show how intelligent mankind is!!! It also goes to show, how stupid we've become!
The man-made island was cool. I wasn't expecting the trees on it. Wisdom is infinite, huh?

And, for those that say how "dangerous" plastic is.......GET A GRIP ON REALITY. Man doesn't live forever and there's nothing he can do to change his "death date". If you're gonna die of plastic poisoning, well....i guess that's how it was supposed to happen.
But until it happens: live life and think outside of the box!

If only all of our Earth's oceans were like that...unfortunately there is too much pollution already and it would be inevitable to see garbage on once clean beaches. You are very fortunate

I am sooooooo jealous! You are indeed lucky! Lovely post too as we need to come up with more ways to recycle and reuse. Just wish we could convince the Rich...

So many uses for plastic bottles. I will start collecting them myself. There are lots here and they are easy to get. They could even be used for homes for people.

While many of the ideas are cool. I think they should be collected and recycled. The reason is that these materials when heated release toxic chemicals, then rains down into the soil... for example....Here is a link that talks about the different recycling numbers on bottom of bottle or container..worth the read.

Actually, PETE and HDPE plastics are low-leach plastics. The one you want to be careful with is PVC, which can leach chlorine. Of course, that's not really as big as issue as one might expect, because we regularly add chlorine to water anyway.

The biggest thing one should take away from your source is that the word "plastic" covers a huge range of products. Saying "plastics are toxic" is like saying "cars are blue"... some are, and some aren't. All a 'plastic' is, is a material composed of polymer chains, and most polymer chains are hydrocarbon-based (just like all life on the planet). Typically it is the chemicals used to terminate the chains (like chlorine in PVC) that are the problem.

A good example is "partially hydrogenated soybean oil", a major part of many of the processed foods we all eat. All oils are hydrocarbon-based polymer chains, and the hydrogenation is a method which uses compressed hydrogen gas to merge these chains together into longer chains: a plastic. It is certainly not toxic, although it is not exactly healthy either; it is inert and is not absorbed by the digestive system.

Drink bottles are awesome things. I have used them for funnels and buckets for years, and am considering making a pontoon boat out of them. They are good to about 100 psi, seal well, are plentiful, cheap, and stable, and last forever and a day. Great thread!
