It's called letting Romney have enough rope to hang himself. Because the fact checkers are going to have a field day with last nights debate. I'm sure Romney's biggest contributors were real happy when he said that the banks that were favored in the Dodd-Frank should be removed from it.

Facts don't matter and you know that.

Because, tada, debate facts don't matter in regards to "winning" when you can put on a show.

I got slammed for noticing this..like somehow my noticing this equalled me singlehandedly ruining democracy.

Lol, yeah I hear what you're saying, the majority of people talk about wanting all the facts but really just want to be entertained.

I'm not a big conspiracy theorist, but I don't think we have the answer to why Obama was so distracted/unengaged last night. I'm a little concerned to find out what it is.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist - even the tiniest little bit

But - that was weird

No matter how you feel about Obama - pro or con - you have to give credit where credit is due - the man is a good speaker

so, I'm with you - WTF?

Mormons are known for being passive. Looks like Romney got past that. Obama can't think on his feet. All he had to say last election was CHANGE. America wants to know the specifics this time.

What? Where'd you get Mormons are passive? Arrogant is more like it.

Plus they encourage public speaking from the time you can get up in front of an audience.

Out on a limb here and this thread is nothing but opinion anyway,

Obama realizes that due to his failed and unrecoverable domestic and foriegn policies that the SHTF moment is not an if but when proposition and he and his ilk would like to hand over the mess to a Republican so the finger pointing may be done - the old "it happened on your watch" meme as it were.

All economic indicators based on undeniable math point to SHTF as well as foriegn policy failures that make JC's "Green Crescent" bumbling in the 70's look positively amaturish in comparison with results being WWIII on the horizon.

If this becomes the case it just proves my opinion that a very very very very, can I say very again! dumbed down electorate put a petulant egotistical poor loser childlike man in the whitehouse.

Dang, Beezzer beat me to it.

Yes, what you are seeing are the emperor's new clothes.
Without Valerie Jarret standing next to him constantly saying "You cool!" Obama stands naked before the world.
If the middle east saw that debate last night, I expect more terrorist attacks on our embassies, He was indecisive, detached, and easily flustered and begging the moderator for help. Israel has public confirmation of what they have always expected from Obama...nothing. I would think Israel just went on high alert.

Obama reached his level of incompetence when he was a community organizer in Chicago.
He did nothing worthwhile in the Illinois Legislature.
He did nothing worthwhile in the U.S. Legislature.
He has done nothing worthwhile in the White House.
He did nothing worthwhile on the debates.

No more excuses for this guy such as he threw the debate. He is what he is.

With all due respect, shouldn't this topic be in Jokes and Puns?

A little Y-Tube hunting will show he's not very good at TOTUS failure moments, the meme he's great speech giver is just part of the legend for this guy.

Don't believe me! go look - proofs there.

I've been wondering if Obama threw the debate so that he can come back with a kick ass debate closer to the election, that everyone will remember.

I think Romney might be quite comfortable with the debate format for the first debate, where candidates know the topics in advance and can run roughshod over a weak moderator.

However, the second debate is town hall style, which I think will massively favor Obama. The town hall style will showcase how the candidates interact with real people, and the likeability factor should shine through.

I also believe that debate performance won't be enough to swing states 8% or more though that are already going for Obama. Based on recent polls, if you count only those states with more than an 8% advantage for Obama, he's already got his 270.

Romney only won the "show".

I expect the "glitter" will fade as substance is discussed.

I think it has more to do with Obama and his record to date. Its not one a person should run on and if they do its definitely not something thats going to get them reelected.

Obama could not defend his position which left him with very few options, one of which would have been to go completely negative towards Romney. Going doiwn that road is going to turn off even more voters in addition to giving more ammunition to Romney. Chris Matthews is a perfect example being he criticised Obama for not attacking Romney on bs issues like the 47% comment etc etc etc.

To be honest im amazed Obama even agreed to the debates. Its going to be lose lose no matter how he spins it.

As far as excuses / blaming there are plenty of media / people on the left already going down this road, with Chris Matthews leading the charge (go figure).

To date the reason Obama lost is because of -

* - Romney spent to much tiume giving responses, not leaving enough time for Obama to get his point out.
* - Romney bullied the moderator.
* - The Moderator did a horrible job of managing the debates.
* - Romney was able to pivot to his talking points in a manner that did not answer the question asked.

Anyone else seeing the pattern?

Its everyone elses fault Obama had a poor performance.

I am waiting for the call to take Romneys success in the debate and merge it with Obamas performance to spread the success.

Its a free board and I will choose if, when and what I deem needs advice or not thank you. If you have an opinion to discuss thats fine - not this though.

Plain and simple Obama has no excuse for his performance whatsoever.

I wasn't a fan of Reagan - but the man was a gifted communicator

Gifted

When people can't be objective - it shows their thinking process and gives away their bias

I spent a good chunk of last night listening to the analysis of what just happened

People were a little shell shocked - all kinds of people

This wasn't an Emperors new clothes moment - you should still be asking yourself what the hell just happened

If you're a thinking person that is

Good thoughts and all possiable.
If you put yourself in Obama's place what does he have to defend ?, a total fail, or sell to the public, socialism? I was really interseted in what if anything this guy would say that anyone other then a socialist on welfare would want to listen to.
That being said if something real bad is comeing down the line that would make Obamas total fail into an "impeachment moment" and he could sit out the next four years, let the GOP fail with what ever desaster is coming then step up and say " well how did the last four tears work for ya?" it might be Obamas handlers that are doing this and willing to wait when there is an Obama/Hillery ticket to finish off America and bring the U.S. into the folds of socialism/ communism 16 to 20. Just a thought but these progressive socialist are not going to let 100 years of infiltrating and getting ready to remold America go this easy.

I think Obama is the type that farms out responsibility. I'm not just talking about delegating some authority. I think he prefers to hobnob with movie stars and music moguls, give interviews with TV and pop culture magazines, and play golf, and leave the heavy hitting responsibility to others.

He didn't even attend his intelligence briefings most of the time...and look what happened in Libya and Egypt. Unconscionable! That situation, especially in Libya, should be on the front page headlines everywhere and we should all be DEMANDING answers. But, what are we doing? Discussing Obama's lackluster performance in the debates.

Everybody has been lead astray by this enigmatic character that appeared out of nowhere to baffle the masses with his ability to b.s. Shame on America for ever having nominated this incompetent baffler.

We, the American people are in a continuous “training exercise” executed by those in power of authority, by those sworn to protect and uphold The Constitution of United States, the freedoms, natural human rights, and civil liberties of her citizens! A “training exercise” that is not just a drill but something that the government and those seeking power use against us every day.
Any and all working in government (all positions from the lowest to the highest) that are betraying, deceiving, and abusing their responsibilities as employees of the United States need to be removed, investigated, and tried (where a possible crime has or may have been committed).
Whether the crime is minor or major, the size of the crime does not matter. What does matter is that a crime(s) was committed and the person(s) committing them are not the ones being held accountable, if anyone at all.
Those in political positions that are rarely brought up on charges seldom see the inside of a jail cell, let alone really pay for their crimes. Those with political ties especially, seem to dodge the “jail bullet” so to speak and live by different rules than the average American…No, the regular American with no prestigious allies and a no-name public defender are almost always held accountable and if found guilty pay for their crimes, whether it be a misdemeanor or felony.
(Author/blogger’s note to reader): My thoughts and words are my own, they are my weapon of choice, my protection, and can be more powerful than the gun of my enemy. They are my own expressions of the times, my contribution to combat the enemy by sharing my knowledge, passions, and ideologies with others. Inspiration for a better tomorrow, a more informed and knowledgeable society, prepared to protect the very fabric of American culture. Some of my material is repeated in multiple documents, mostly due to the fact that I am continuously critiquing, changing, updating, and sharing my writings with the world. If a topic or something from one of my previous posts shows up multiple times on my blog or wall…it probably means the subject is ”IMPORTANT!” And you should check it out! American freedoms are at risk of being removed need to be protected. Question: Who is going to stand up and protect our freedoms if our own elect won’t? Answer: Americans, you, me, and the People are going to have to speak up, speak out, and DO something about this oppressive government that is becoming more like a dictatorship rather than a democracy each day. What are you willing to sacrifice in the name of freedom? What are you willing to do to preserve our freedoms, rights, and liberties? What else can we do to ensure a free America, tomorrow??? God Bless America! Blessed be to you and yours… To be continued….

You have to remember most people aren't objective at all nor did they approach this debate in an objective manner. Everyone has their prejudices. Very few people on this thread have actually presented an objective opinion. Most people on this board today are right wing. ATS has become Breitbart central, so it's no surprise this is what we are seeing. They can't admit Obama might be good at anything.
