I don't see a problem with him being a Muslim, do we not have freedom of religion? Maybe we should focus on the actual problems, not what the president's religion is.

It's the hypocrisy that bothers me here

With the way you took this out of context you shouldn't even be allowed to use the word hypocrisy. He spoke of many religions during this speech not just one if anyone is the hypocrite it's you.

If he were Muslim (which he's not) it would bother a lot of people. Mainly the small minded teabaggers that are under the delusion that America is a Christian nation. The funny thing about the teabaggers is that they say take this country back to the way the founders wanted it but choose to overlook that the founders were against having a central religion.

Judaism are fair game.

Since when? Since when exactly is Judaism fair game? What planet is this taking place on. Because in my country, friendly left leaning socialist Canada, it's a crime to be antisemitic, and now, they have extended the definition to including criticism of Israel or the government of Israel. similar laws exist in countries in europe.

i think you are living in a fantasy world my friend, all religions have extremists, and in my view, all religion should be open for parody. but let me just ask you, are you blind, or just ignorant, of the many sects of christianity that go apecrap crazy over anything and everything?

Why don't you give us the full story instead of half of it.

Because that would be the opposite of trolling. And clearly, that was the intent of this thread. Sadly, it works, here and abroad, because most people simply wouldn't bother to read the speech, much like most here won't bother to read an ACTUAL translation of the Iranian Presidents speech.

Because when you actually provide the full text, it's kind of hard to slant and skew it to meet your own ends.

wow ... just wow ..

Completely quoted out of context .. but I guess that happens to just about any public figure.. still, I can see the danger of this becoming the next big e-mail and facebook "foward", "like" or "share" trend..

Why, OP? did you do that intentionally or did you get suckered in by reading something someone else posted without researching it first? looks like ATS caught it instantly.

PERFECT example of taking things out of context.

Folks learn NOT to do this, even if you hate your opposition.

Thank you woogle for putting this in perspective! Your post should be added to the OP by a mod because honestly, pulling something out of context like that should not be left unedited, people might, and probably will, read the OP and draw conclusions.

Don't like what Obama did and still does, but there are enough things to hold against him without pulling things out of context... This is the kind of stuff that people eventually use in debates and afterwards, when shown they were wrong, have to find excuses for and waste a lot of time on denying etc.

What I find totally reprehensible is that the whole world can be destroyed because people argue over who's make believe diety is better. Its the 21st century and there is no proof of any kind of god anywhere. There is nothing at all to show that there is any kind of creature that created us and looks after us. Its stupid to prepetuate this in this modern age. Sorry folks but really.

So then logically the future belongs to those who embrace Islam. NO THANKS.

If thats what you got from that then you really need to work on reading comprehension because your understanding of what you have read is very low. This speech is calling for tolerance for all walks of life. Go back and read it again more slowly.

When you consider that there is no proof for either one then I think they can be proclaimed as equal. Really, who is better, Superman or Batman, Santa Claus or The Easter Bunny, Quisp or quake ( for those who remember these)

Woogleuk, thanks for being a truth supporter! I hate people who fake truth to get what they want.

Schuyler, half truths are worse than lies. They backfire faster or work better. Guess what happened? Stop doing this and see the whole damn picture, not the parts you like. Thanks

Why hasn't this topic been deleted for an obvious and childish attempt at slander? Misquoting someone on purpose should be ban worthy.

No truer words have ever been said and is why I refuse to put bumper stickers on my car so that people can judge based on a single sentence, as if that sentence could ever possibly sum up who i am and what my values are.

. It's just that we appear to be in an era where one religion, Islam, is more equal than others, and due some special reverance which, by its own actions, does not deserve.[\quote]

Its impossible to be MORE equal. And the only reason you perceive this era to give "special reverence" to Islam is because people are trying to counter the effects of the demonization of Islam as a whole because of the actions of a small fraction of its followers.

I think its telling when people perceive attempts to counter intolerance of any kind as giving special treatment to a group of people.

OP., are you really commenting on the Piss Christ photo from more than a few years back?

Why should anyone condemn it? It was considered art and whether or not you personally like it makes no difference. Much art over the ages has been offensive to some people no matter what. That this particular piece represented a Crucifix, (which a pretty barbaric icon if you stop to think about, almost as bad as that ritual cannabalism you Christians set so much store by), submerged in urine is pretty tame by most standards.

I tell you what, when all of you angry religious people finally understand the great lessons of the teachers and prophets: end hunger, shelter every child, show unconditional love to your enemies, then, and only then will the rest of us take you seriously. You can not pick and choose what parts of your teachings you will follow, any teachings, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, or Pagan and then tell everyone else that we are doing it wrong or offending you. You offend us with your hypocrisy.

This is a stupid post, not at all what Obama was saying. there is still hypocrisy.

Yet to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see when the image of Jesus Christ is desecrated, churches are destroyed, or the Holocaust is denied

Why did the US stay when Iran was doing just that, denying the Holocaust, at the UN? We previously would walk on that, what's changed?
