Hi ATS. I was driving around 50 minutes ago (10.50pm) and spotted a very large meteor shower to the south west of Glasgow around the Paisley boundary which then continued to proceed over and into the Paisley area.
It was travelling slowly and horizontally (East>West) and very low in the sky. I have checked the local weather and meteorological sites and cant find anything. It was massive. I couldn't get a good picture of it because the street lights flared in my camera. Did anyone else spot it?

(There have also been 4 helicopter fly-by's over the local area since this has happened. Helicopters are normal here however it is only usually one. This time as I said it's been 4, very, very unusual).

Another helicopter flying over now ...total= 5

For clarification the helicopter fly-by's could possibly be the same one. There are not 5 different helicopters flying at the same time.

...do you now the name of the shower? Thanks

I've been looking on the internet since then to see if anyone has seen it also. It appears that others have seen it over Edinburgh and Wales ("meteor shower over uk" searched on google, here)

Hi, sounds cool. I'd be very interested in knowing if you spot any other unusual aerial activity, planes, copters anything. We had a big meteor about a month ago and I've been seeing some very weird stuff flying about. Good to know if yours is a repeat.

I live in south east of Ireland, my Dad called me earlier to come see what he described as a huge meteor breaking off into fifty plus pieces. Mist be the same thing. I missed it but was looking out for an impact after..!!

Yep quite big by the sounds of it.

www.bbc.co.uk...

...the sight was "like Independence Day" in reference to the film about an alien invasion of Earth.

Thanks for the link. This confirms what I saw. An incredible sight with it being so close, slow and in many bits. Never seen anything like it before.
