Clinton to remove Iranian exile group from terror list

security.blogs.cnn.com

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to notify Congress as early as Friday that she intends to take the Iranian exile group Mujahedin-e-Khalq, or MEK, off a State Department terror list, three senor administration officials told CNN.

The notification will be followed by a formal de-listing from the State Department’s list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations in the coming days.

MEK was placed on the U.S. terrorism list in 1997 because of the killing of six Americans in Iran in the 1970s and an attempted attack against the Iranian mission to the United Nations in 1992. However,

First off, this group are terrorists. There is no doubt about it. They also are known under various other names such as the PMOI and MKO.

Second, this shows how certain governments will utilize certain groups at their convenience. Various American politicians have been lobbying to have this group taken off the terrorist list. If find the reason behind this to be quite twisted since this group is in the habbit of causing unrest in various areas primarily against the Iranian regime with a total disregard of civilian life in the process.

This group is rumored to have ties with Mossad and the CIA and I suspect them to be associated with a lot of the mysterious events that have happened in Iran over the last couple years, including but not limited to assassionations and various explosions.

I wonder which terrorist organizatin the U.S. will decide to team up with next?

From what I've read, they're an exile group from Iran living in Iraq. They aligned themselves with Saddam Hussein during the 8-year Iran/Iraq war in opposition to Iran. Because of that former alliance, the current Shi'ite Nouri al-Maliki Iraqi regime considers them enemies, and wants them relocated outside of Iraq - which can't be done until they're delisted as a terrorist group. Apparently they turned over their weapons to America in 2003 and have been working with America since then. They are opposed to the Shiites in Iran and advocates the overthrow of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

That said - it ramps up the idea we are "setting them loose" to further escalate tensions with Iran. They were classified as "terrorists" because they once aligned themselves with Saddam Hussein who gave them land and a base of operations to carry out their opposition to Iran, which made them enemies of the USA as well, when we invaded Iraq. Now that is done and over and Hussein is gone, our attention is on Iran, and suddenly these "former enemies" are looking like "enemies of our enemies".

I thank you for your input on the situation and I completely agree with all the points and facts you have mentioned. It certainly is a tangled web of lies that these people operate within.

It just shows that TPTB are not shy about lying and or cheating to help forward their agendas.

It is a tangled web...

The groups primary focus is opposition to the Shiite Islamic Republic of Iran. They are anti-Shiite, so that puts them at odds with the new US-backed Shiite regime in Iraq as well.

The move to delist them as terrorists is either:

1. A favor to Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki who wants them out of Iraq

2. A favor to MEK itself.

3. A move against Iran.

I would consider #1 the most valid reason for declassifying them as terrorists. al-Maliki has made it clear he wants them out of Iraq, which is impossible as long as they remain on the State Dept.'s terrorism org. list. The group has little power or influence so highly unlikely the USA has anything to gain by removing them and if it wanted them to remain a viable threat to Iran would have allowed them to remain in Iraq.

Uh oh...

Looks like we have just created a possible ready made government in waiting.

When has this ever worked out well? 'Yeah sure they are killers and thieves and totally untrustworthy, but we can work with them! Enemy of my enemy and all that...'

If not a government in waiting at least a nominal ally in the goat sc*** to follow. If there are those who think this far fetched, why then all of a sudden -in a world alive with 'terrorists'- the State Department removes a bunch of guys who just last week were evil targets to be dispatched?

This was the group that provided information to the CIA and Mossad that Iraq had and was intending to use chemical weapons, one of the main reasons thrown to the table to justify the Iraq war of 2003.

Several CIA members, including senior officials, have stated that they do not trust what these guys say.

An important thread, and an important development, because these are the guys who - supposedly - are a big part of the equation of where the information about Iran comes from.

Taking them from the list of terrorist is the first step to give them credibility to whatever might follow.

You are absolutely correct, and I don't trust them either. I also believe that their removal from this list is opening up a whole can of worms that many people aren't capable of comprehending just yet. These militants could be the next puppet regime installed in Iran once the West decides to finally topple the current Iranian regime.

It would be just like Libya, roll in and bomb the # out of the place then install a corrupt government of known terrorists, but since they are no longer terrorists according to the list, then it's all good

The whole regions is turning into one big ugly mess, even more so than before.

Here are a couple more links about this group and their affiliates.

Jundollah, Iran and the USA...

Many people forget about the Jundollah and their role in all of this.

I think that the risk of receiving wrong information from them, that could lead to a severe and huge conflict in the Middle East, is not worth the information or aid they might offer.

For all we know - assuming this isn't all pre-planned - they could be playing with the US Government and providing information and leads that will help them on the long-run for power in Iran. These guys could just be fueling two angry and hungry country powers for their own personal gain.

The sugar-coating for them is the possibility of taking charge of a whole country.

The consequence for us is a major conflict in Iran, which would hit severely the economy worldwide at a time of weakness, and quite possibly expanding the conflict to the whole world, depending on the chinese and russian responses.

WW2 was big because while one problem appeared in Europe, another one was developing in Asia. Exactly the same countries as today, except the sharp problem isn't in Europe, it's in the Middle East. But the players in Asia are actually the same, with the worst part being the obligation that the US has to aid the defense of Japan.

I've been having fun mapping some connections, and things are starting to look quite scary, if anyone or anything makes the wrong call or move.

I agree...it's kind of obvious what they are doing.

I saw this coming for a while ever since those politicians were lobbying to get them off the list, and now Hillary herself goes through with it. If you add this with current events that are unfolding it leaves us no choice but to at least consider the minute possibility that they are up to something here.

I supported Hillary in the race for the presidency. But after her participation in the Bin Laden hoax, even going so far as to sit in on a ridiculous photo op of a group looking at the "kill," I wouldn't trust anything she does. I'm sure she's part of the illuminutties, which I hadn't even heard of until last year or so.

What a weird world.

They are probably going to help with the attack on the United States. Will they be bit players or stars of the show? Stay tuned! Good find, OP.

Translation: the US will start or has been funding, arming and feeding them intelligence in order to help them overthrow the Iranian government.

I think the United States made a great decision on removing them from the list. If it helps stop Iran from making a nuclear bomb or giving nuclear materials to terrorists groups, more power to the US.
