Agreed they are quite annoying and sometimes I click to mute only to be sent to whatever page it's linked to.

I didn't know this website had ads.
Far be it for me to appear as an Adblock Plus toadie praising its virtues.... but that add-on really does warrant the amount of recommendation it inspires.

Edit: I just read the T&C. So it's... not allowed here?
There goes my daily enjoyable experience. -_- Time to succumb to the communal ear rape, I guess. Gotta keep this website afloat somehow, huh?

Those ads are the worst. Woke me up out of bed a few nights ago. Left the page open and at 3 in the morning had to run downstairs to close the page because it had woke everybody in the house up.

Thank you for that tip.

I mute my computer now but occasionally miss part of audio I have clicked purposefully. Those sudden sounds startle me (scare would be better) to the point of getting palpitations. Not a good thing.

Yeah have a little more respect for your readership. We don't have to come here, you know.

Three pages of replies... 56 flags and no sign of a MOD to give us an a reason why we have to tolerate the stupid ads and sound. If you fart on ATS five mods will come along and ban your post.

To deal with the ads use an ad blocker its against terms and conditions but its the only way ATS is going to notice. If it hits the money...Not that I am recommending using an add blocker. That would be against TC...

A four second google search will reveal the following: Google Chrome has an add in called flash block. Download, install and stop complaining.

I couldn't agree more. I work at a radio station on the air, and often, I will go to this website while I'm working. If I forget to mute my computer, and the ad starts playing, that's bad news for me. I might have to take a break from ats for awhile until tptb get rid of the ads with sound. thanks for making this thread.

S+F theseads are extemely annoying.

I can deal w/ these types of ads with sound on websites where I'm watching videos that usually cost money, so I put up with them. But ATS is free. I have no problem with banner ads or pop up ads, but the ones with audio are just annoying. Please getrid of these asap.

Also they aren't even just on the homepage anymore, they are on thread pages (unless) that happened cause I wasn't logged in..., either way they got to go.

I too agree... the sound ads EAT bandwidth.

Between the updated front page, the old ads that would automatically open and cover the whole page and the horrible bandwidth eating ads, ATS is alienating it's base.

It is rude, inconvienent and actually costs some of us money to have these high bandwidth ads with sound.

Mods, should we be shocked that there is no response on this yet? Is this what ATS is really all about then?

Your silence is louder than the ads.

I thought it quite interesting, too, that no ATS moderator has not addressed this thread.

Thanks, OP, (S&F'ed) for this thread, Just noticed this problem getting worse myself, and was about ready to start a thread on the subject.

These audio ads are the height of obnoxiousness. If ATS wants its users and members to abide by T&C's, i.e. not use some sort of ad-blocking, then it needs to at least be considerate of its usership and membership by not putting in these obnoxious, intrusive audio ads.

I like to listen to music or audio books while on my computer, so I find these audio ads to be extremely rude.

That all said, I noticed that it seems I get a lot more of these audio ads when I am not logged in to ATS, i.e. just using the site as a visitor. Anyone else notice this?

As an aside, I also found the "marijuana!" comment amusing. It's ok on this website to advocate an illegal attack of another country, but god forbid one advocate legalizing recreational drugs. What's even more ironic is how a number of the regulars on ATS live, and hence part of ATS, are nicotine fiends and get very defensive if any godless, commie-pinko, fascist talk of tobacco prohibition comes up, because, like, tobacco is a legal drug, so it would be wrong to illegalize it; never mind that it is a major health and safety problem.

Ad block Plus, maybe? This add on saved my life. Internet life, anyway :p

Someone didnt read the t&c's lol

Why? What does it say about Ad block Plus? The add-on is great because it stops every ad and video until you press a little "play" button if you wish to see the ad or the video. I am just helping here ;p

To all the people saying "Just download an ad blocker", I don't WANT to do that, because I WANT to support ATS by having ads displayed. As someone who's run websites and a community myself, I know how that revenue can help.

That said, the ads with sound are so distracting that I might just end up doing that. It'd be a shame.
