The Microscope and Retort vessel shown together would signify, as far as I am aware, someone involved in microbiology or some specialized medical field. The Retort is used for the distillation of various substances so coupled with the microscope that narrows the possibilities.

Pendants with microscopes, although not everyday, are not uncommon............

Hope that helps mate

It's now even more of a mystery....even if it ends up not being anything big....and just a college pendant...I can deal w/ that...but..you would think I could find the pendant on the web looking under college science pendants....nothing so far...I might not be using the right search terms...

An 'X' is not Masonic and does not factor into Masonic ritual or symbolism.

edit on 19-9-2012 by AugustusMasonicus because: networkdude has no beer

There is 2 ways to look an X
1D or 2D but im sure you already knew that lol
i can see through people emotions .. the signs are actualy more easy to read

maybe a few yrs back .. i would have been easy to fool and believe you first spot

It does a little...help that is...but...still I can't find the source of the pendant. I believe the science angle is definetly the key...alchemy

How old? And is it college or masonic?

I don't know any details of my family only of my Mothers Father who came here from Itay. But..this could have been from her husbands family and I have nooooo idea of their history either. I come from a very broken family. Blahhhh lol

I'm just glad I'm not broken

it does look scientific related, if it's esoteric it would be maybe alchemy related.

but i see nothing whatsoever relating this to freemasonry, besides the paranoia and escapegoatism surrounding freemasonry.

masons aren't shy when displaying specific symbology, and this isn't it.

I like you to ! lol thanks for the kind word

people searching for the truth are trying to evolve and expend their mind
i have a certain dislike for people that dont want to explore outside the bubble
fear of something and will hide the truth all their life .. for what ? the stress will eat you alive
my familly is also very strange .. i can now understand why they are so secretive
but i understand them more clearly now .. and let them play my game

all the people that have anger in them have a patern .. skeletons in their closet

schools and universities all of them have similar strange symbols with hidden meaning

'1D'? Really? Maybe you can astound everyone here and draw a one dimensional object.

Times have not changed, anyone who claims that they can see one dimensional objects is beyond foolish.

Please show me where in Masonry an 'X' is used.

I'm very interested to find out what the other symbol is? There is a small gold bowl under the ( pipe, old carrying bag with something in it?) what is it there for?

plus it does look like an early 1900s european style of achievement emblem.
i have medals with similar crest shapes made in the same way depicting anything from national symbols to sports teams to academic institutions.

if you notice older generations in europe still like to wear medals and pins denoting afilliation or devotion to anything.

it's a scientific crest, probably related to microbiological research like others said.
even though for a period science used to be commonly represented by a microscope.
and that's what most people associate with it.

I am in agreement that this pendant was bestowed for either high school or college scientific honors. For refence please see the following link for the 1955 Thomas Addis Memorial Award from the LA Chapter of the National Nephrosis Foundation which features both the microscope and alembic: osulibrary.oregonstate.edu...

No problems - the origin of this may become an ongoing personal quest for you - a quick look at jewellery websites suggests these sorts of items are usually one-off designs and made on request for individuals or Universities/Colleges.

The receptacle at the end of the retort is called a "catch-bowl" - its use being self explanatory

ETA: The poster above me has certainly narrowed the search considerably - hope you get some closure regarding this little enigma of yours.

the 1D and 2D technique is getting old

Not that i like Harry Potters movies
this gold bowl could be some magic elexir for eternal life
making pure silver and gold or the philosopher stone itself
it could mean a lot of things .. your familly probably have some deep secrets
and it is now your quest to find out everything

not a coincidence that you found that pendant
maybe its nothing and the pendant is junk ..
if you suspect something .. then you have the answer
be carefull .. dont share your findings to people you dont trust
most legend trully exist .. the world is just "Wow" if you know what i mean lol

the only thing to see is you are obsessed/paranoid with masons therefore you are seeing it everywhere.

but it's okay, keep being distracted by masons, masons don't even mind the attention.

That was my thought as well. Looks like a microscope. Science related. Very interesting. Very very nice looking. Please post whatever information you find about it.

now that's quite a stretch of reasoning and imagination.
coupled with ambiguous and cliche statements.

you should look into being a psychic, medium or other types of charlatanism.
it's clear you're a natural when it comes to seeing only what you want to see and creating a fantasy out of it, conveniently giving ambiguous statements as to not compromise yourself.

the OP has asked for help in clarifying the issue and is obviously confused about it, your nightmares about masonry are not helping and infact you're clouding the issue, further confusing the OP in hopes to inject your own twisted view of things.

now i'll just point and laugh at you, look at you all scared and worked over... masons

eta: plus your choice of relating the elixir of life and philosopher's stone concepts to harry potter books really tells me in which generation you were born, not that age matters, but maybe you should grow up a little know your place and respect your elders.
