A recently uncovered fragment of ancient papyrus makes the explosive suggestion that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were man and wife, researchers say.
The 8cm by 4cm fragment supports an undercurrent in Christian thought that undermines centuries of Church dogma by suggesting the Christian Messiah was not celibate.
The centre of the fragment contains the bombshell phrase where Jesus, speaking to his disciples, says 'my wife', which researchers believe refers to Magdalene.

Whoa! Ok? Um this may cause a stir?

First of all I would like to say I am not religious at all and I'm not making any assumptions at all. I post this as "Information only". I do not wish to upset anyone.

So what do you think of this? I happened to come across it on my usual scout of the morning rags. Seems pretty interesting to me, perhaps you would like to add your thoughts below.

It looks legit plus, "The incomplete manuscript, written in the ancient Egyptian Coptic language, has been studied by Karen King, Hollis professor of divinity at Harvard University, the oldest endowed academic seat in the US." So I guess there is weight behind it?

Of course Jesus had a lover, he kissed the apostle John frequently. The apostle John is actually John the Baptist and the man/woman to the left of Jesus in The Last Supper is actually John and so is the "woman" at the foot of the cross.

Take a look at Da Vinci's John the Baptist painting, I think this is what he was hinting at with all his paintings. John and Jesus were lovers.

Most Christians wont acknowledge this, so it wont stir anything, true or not. If true this is just more proof of how little us humans know. No matter what it is we think we know, tomorrow can change that, nothing is excluded.

I'll summarize my post in the (original thread) here, as well.

This "proof" is a scrap, smaller than a business card, which contains eight lines, plus three words, and the continuation of the phrase "my wife" is missing, so we have no way of knowing if it said "my wife, Mary" (cue Dan Brown) or, perhaps "my wife, the church" (cue the existing New Testament).

In addition, this is apparently a Fourth Century document, written in Coptic, which is consistent with the Gnostic texts in Nag Hammadi, and the views expressed would be consistent with those.

In short, there is nothing particularly "revealing" about this, even if it shown to be real.

when all this first came out during the angels and demons thing, mainstream anyway, it made me furious but after thinking about it a while i thought, why not, Jesus was a mortal man while here i mean he came here to die for our sins so he had to be mortal so i have come to embrace that he was married to Mary Magdalene in fact i always pushed the issue when around friends and i was raised Catholic so if you're failure you'll already know how that conversation goes haha anyway i am extraordinarily religious and i totally except the notion and think it as fact.

the Church like any government are in it for control and i'm sure they knew it to be true all these years and now even with proof i bet they still deny it. anyway i have believed this for a while now and i know that cretin parties know who, living among us right now, comes from the divine blood line because i also believe Jesus and Marry had a child.

Ok, you have me interested now...........slightly off topic, but hey who cares, this has been posted several times.

If Jesus and Mary had a child, how come their child was nothing special? And the one after that and the one after......

or is this where you say , "why does the child have to be special?"

I just wondering that's all as if we took a look at cattle, we breed cattle to their bloodlines etc, surely there would be some "trait" that made this person special and if so why have we not heard of him/her?

This is correct.
We're not going to buy into a 5th Century fragment from a gnostic community in Egypt.
The dreams and visions of gnostics are no basis for faith; they have no more validity than the dreams of anyone else.

Seem she is trying to apply some SPF30 to his skin. Seems he has a hard day ahead preaching the "word".

You would get burnt too if that is all you wore out in the sun?!

You can see he's not too keen on it though, as this is not how Jesus roles but she is pleading with him.

You all should realize that as a Christian you are to all be as a virgin bride for Christ upon his return right?

I am not a woman and far from a virgin so how do I come to terms with this? Easy.. It nothing more than the usual symbology that the Bible uses. It's really all this is.
