Hey all, my buddy and I are planning a trip to Las Vegas from about Jan 16-20. While there, I plan on gambling and taking a side trip to Rachel and the area 51 lookout area. My buddy doesnt care for this stuff so he'll be in the casino, but I'm gonna make the trip out there, anyone interested in coming along?
I'm figuring on going either the 18th or 19th. I'll get up to where the signs are, but I aint passing them lol
Any takers?

Just know that one of the main reasons that place is so secret and restricted is because of all the radiation and pollutants. I'd take a geiger counter to wear on your person if you decide to get close.

ATS needs more investigations and expeditions and less grainy youtube videos.

This is good, good luck!

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

When you go to the "Little A'Le'Inn", be sure not to ask where Roswell is.

I spent a couple of hours talking to Pat in Rachel at the Cafe. While I was there meeting people and enjoying the conversation, a Motor-home pulled up and they came inside to ask for directions to Roswell
A local fellow who was talking to me (I forget his name now), told me that happens almost daily.

There are tours you can take from Vegas. Spend some money at the Inn, they need it to survive.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

It appears that you visit nevada at least one time each year...You should try being there at night next year, maybe you will see some interesting stuff in the night sky above area 51. Star for your excellent report.

Be prepared for snow. It doesn't stick around much, but it does snow in the high desert. Black ice is more of a problem, especially on Hancock summit.

January is a serious convention month in Vegas. Your trip is well timed, missing CES and NAHB.

On a two day trip with a day in Vegas, you aren't going to see much around the range. I would suggest going to Nellis AFB on Friday afternoon. Whatever is flying will be heading back to base for Miller time. Saturday around the Nellis range will be pretty dead. I wouldn't even bother to hang out around the range on a Friday or Saturday night.

Depending on wind direction, you can watch the Janet's land from the Town Center shopping mall or the Fry's Electronics parking lot. If they are not flying over there, then you would need to go to the long term parking garage to watch. It is relatively cheap and security doesn't seem to give a crap about people photographing aircraft from the garage. They will eyeball you once and that is about it.

You might want to consider arriving a day earlier and spend that day up north.
