My first reaction wasn't that they were trying to kill themselves, but rather, something was causing them to end in this position. Perhaps something in the water is off to them, or perhaps their echolocation isn't working correctly? I doubt they were trying to kill themselves.

Do dolphins commit suicide?
I have never heard that before.

Does PETA know about this?

Isn't this an old video - I'm sure it was a thread on here a year or so ago?

Lovely story all the same. I'd be first to dump my shoes and get in there. Come to think of it I would anyway, water looks lovely.

I love the title of this thread!!!!

Those poor dolphins are trying to die and the damn humans keep trying to save them......go figure.

Good on them. If only we could do that with the countless whales that beach themselves here. A lot of people blame military sonar, shipping lanes etc. But we know mass beachings go back to 300BC. If we haven't worked it out by now I don't think we ever will.

What if they were the dolphin equivalent of surfers. Land surfing. It could be a thing, we don't know. Sometimes it goes wrong, sometimes they return back?

the dolphins are trying to show humans that the theory of evolution is stupid.

according to the theory of evolution, if the dolphins continue to practice beaching themselves, they will eventually grow feet and start walking.

no, what happens is they die. they can do that for the next 10 trillion years and the result will be the same.

but apparently to some "scientists" this is precisely what happens.

Great video, I've never seen it!

My first reaction was that they were following a school of fish, small fish most likely, and just swam right into the shallow surf following.

That's what it looked like to me. Shows how easy it is for them to beach themselves, and opens my eyes to the other beachings.

They're not trying to kill themselves.

Dolphins have to come closer to the beaches because it is getting harder for them to find food due to overfishing. So they follow these small fishes which try to escape by going where the water is shallow. That's how the dolphins end up on the shore.

Good to see humans having a good reaction.....even tho some of them took quite a while to react!!!

Here you go! Educate yourself!!!

Just recently several pilot whales beached themselves in Fort Pierce, FL. Maybe something is going on. It seems as though when these animals beach themselves, something ends up happening. Earthquake, volcanoes etc. Hopefully the link worked.

Wrong.

Evolution states no such thing. You should learn about evolution before making ignorant statements like that.

(STO) It is nice to see Humans supporting the sea mammals like this it shows within the human collective care for other life still exist. I wonder what they encountered to cause them to try and beach in that way. Also it seems like their tails were moving in similar pattern like communicating to avoid. Could be there was something in the water that scared them.

They are fleeing from the new high power sonar.

They beach themselves running from it.

Amazing post gives me hope in humanity still ( except for those still watching on the sidelines doing nothing but watching this amazing act of compassion and all they can do is hold a hand over their mouth and watch in dumbfounded awe.). An interesting theory I 've heard about beachings are that it is due to distortions in the earths electromagnetic field. The majority of animals rely on the earths electromagnetic field for navigation and positioning. The earth is supposed to be going through a shifting of poles causing distortions in the field. This would create an immense problem for animal reliant on the field for navigation. This would create glitches in the animals perception leading them to believe there is water where there is land. It would also account for the weird migration patterns of many birds with them ending up where they normally wouldn't be.
