Seems more sensible than the current layout, bearing in mind the requirements for the new tech epoch. As long as all the links and buttons work then there shouldnt be any issues with it !

I see that you are the site owner. My opinion? Leave it alone. People come here for information and to discuss topics. We do not need flashy designs. People would still come here with an all white background and a scroll through list.

I personally do not like the most flagged in the past days at the top like they're stickied. I don't like having to scroll through them to get to new threads. Threads that people are interested in are already on the front page. I just think it's overkill and a tad bit annoying.

But users do need accessibility. The new User Experience will feature full functionality and screen-specific design for tablet and smart phone users, without the need to download apps from someone's app store/marketplace. For example, below is the current home page, linked in the opening post of this thread, running as a native app on my iPhone -- but not downloaded through iTunes...

This is the functionality we're striving for.

I think it looks good as long as it doesn't cost much resources or time. If it's semi easily doable then I say go for it. But I'm not really one to use my phone for much more than an actual phone lol. It does look cool though. To think 5 years ago having a ring tone was a big deal

I like it better on the iPhone and iPad than my computer. It looks a little bland and I'm not a huge fan of the bigger type. On the small screens though it's nice.

The redone "Recent Posts" page loads up faster on my iphone than the mobile version of the site. Nice.

Lazy load doesnt seem to work on it though.

On my iPhone and iPad, I need to swipe-scroll beyond the bottom to force the lazy load... almost like the opposite of refreshing the Twitter App.

No good. Page just springs back without loading new threads.

The format is great.
But in my opinion that green-yellow against grey background makes my eyes feel like reading through a fog.
Maybe a brighter yellow, or even white will be more gentle for the eyes.

Anyway, just to mention, I like the format as it is now, ( if it's not broken, don't fix it
) but the new one is nice too.

Firstly a big thank you to you SkepticOverlord and the whole ATS staff for providing such a valuable collection of news and information! I really enjoyed the James Gilliland Ranch videos and have met him myself so those reinforce my findings. I was a big surprise to say the least.

I like the preview and if others don't, they will get used to it just like everything else. I remember the first major redesign I saw with the bubbles etc. ( I am newer to the site) And it seemed to receive a lot of negativity. I for one just adjusted to it. After all its more about the information not about how you read it. I am to understand this is NOT a phone APP but a formatting for the webpage on smartphones? ( I initially thought it was an APP)

The best advice I could give is a comparison. As with the new XCOM game on the horizon (IM EXCITED!). They made it better without taking out what made the game popular. In fact focusing on those popular features. That is what I hope ATS would do, upgrade to new designs and technical heights BUT keep the heart of what makes ATS Abovetopsecret.

Hope that helps a bit.

An update.

The home page -- and probably only a handful of others -- now truly scales to whatever full screen you'd like... even if that includes two screens.

So after we launch the new site, no more complaining things are too narrow!

Taken with my iPhone, sorry for the poor quality.

Hey Skeptic, the new pages look great. I tried it on all my devices at different sizes and it's way more friendly.

Not to be a spelling nazi, but the "recent posts" page says "current activity on today's popular and reoccurring topics". I don't think "reoccurring" is in the dictionary. Isn't it supposed to be "recurring"..

I just wanted to feel like I contributed in some small way, and I mean very small.

Reoccurring was apparently auto-kerwrecked by my latest version of BBedit... Not used to having a spelling function in an HTML edittor.

Just another thought that may help. I see people are complaining about the font colors. Can you make it so people can choose what color they want the text? I don't care too much and haven't got a headache from it yet but it may help others who don't know how to change most of it in their browser settings. Again good job on the modifications. I use three LCD's. 1 for eBay, 1 for Google, and 1 for ATS!

On the mobile for me I usually am keeping tabs on the Daily ATS email if I am not near a computer. If if see something interesting I go through the mail link on my phone. So its nice to know it will be easier to use.

On another side note, good idea not going the APP way as most apps have horrendous bugs that are much harder to work out compared to HTML.

Thanks again SkepticOverlord, we all owe you many thanks!

Two reasons in our case, not necessarily related to your comment.

(1) I believe HTML5 (not native apps) are the future trend, I've felt that way for years.

(2) I think it serves the interests of ATS members much better to deliver what works-like and feels-like and app, but with no requirements to give up personal info and credit card details just to download a free app to access ATS on mobile devices.
