I'm seeing a white gap down the right side on my Droid phone, don't know if that's just because it's a thumbnail or what. Otherwise it looks cool to me.

I'm a bit of a mobile fanatic now, so I will gladly provide some input.

iPad 2 (Tested with Chrome and Safari)

Browsing on the current build in portrait mode on an iPad 2 is a game breaker, the menu becomes deformed when you click on the more button. In both portrait and landscape mode I am noticing that sometimes when scrolling the contents roll over top of the menu and it looks bad. The fly-out effect on the content seems a little weird, at least on my device its near instant and you can barely tell it happened however on an older device I wonder if it would be a needless slowdown?

Samsung Galaxy S2 Player (Native Browser and Firefox)

Layout is broken in both viewing modes in both browsers, slow and nearly impossible to navigate

Motorola Photon Q (Android phone, fully up to date tested with Native Browser and Chrome)

Pretty much the same issues as I had with the S2 Player, its very touchy, the menu while easy to see on the screen is not very responsive.

Of these three the tablet experience seems to be the best as long as its done in landscape mode. Overall the layout works well given the limited test we have here, editing profile fields may be another story completely on a mobile device.

One question I have is that under some older devices doing a file upload from the device did not work due to security models and sandboxing, from a quick test thats been solved in the latest Android release however it seems iOS is still hesitant to allow access to the filesystem from Safari, will that become an issue for mobile users of the new layout?

Took a look at this new format this morning.

Normally I use Firefox, and indeed the screen layout fits just fine on my widescreen monitor with my desktop.

I also loaded it up in Chrome (however, I think Springer told me once that we're not suppose to use Chrome because of the Ad blocker, etc), but just to let you know the format fits that browser just fine also.

However, it looks as though you all want more feed back on mobile devices, of which I do not have or use (I'm FREE! You ain't slaving me to no stinking cell phone! hehehehehe).

So I'm not able to give any feedback on those.

As for the lay out: meh. I'm too used to the current format, so the new one seems strange to me. But I know how to adapt too, so if ATS goes to it, I'll just learn how to navigate it when the time comes.

After some lengthy research and offline testing, I'm zoning in on a navigation system that remains simple, yet supports flexibility.

Click the thumbnail for a view of how it looks on a iPad in "portrait" orientation:

It's all right I guess. I'm sad the side menu isn't going to come out.

Tell me... Can I get to this page some how??

NEW TOPICS (newly created, flagged, most posts)

Right now pressing New Topics is pointing me directly to firehose.. That's not what I want at all, and if this really changes like that I won't be coming back very often anymore.

And just so I am sure I get this straight. You guys are changing every view to that hard to read topic jumble instead of keeping things in columns? If that's the case don't bother with answering my above question.

Maybe you could give people like me a button that says "Classic View" OR Hoping this is only a Mobile Version of the site that I don't ever have to look at.

The layout looks to be about what I'd expect from a forum site targeted towards mobile devices. I'm interested to see some type of beta test so I can check this on my galaxy s2. Sure, plenty of people have ipads and tablets, but don't ignore smartphones. A well done mobile site looks great on a smartphone.

DEXTER!!

Oh..... the layout, yeah, looks tidy & neat, like a good martini. You might could fit a few more headlines in there before you had to scroll, maybe by limiting the correlating OP text to two, max three, lines under the heading.
No big whoop, but I totally dig how you can see most of the popular topics at a glance on the most recently improved version of the original ATS homepage.

I was asked to comment on the new layout. I haven't liked any of the new layouts. They don't feel as organized and user friendly as what we already have.

Seems to be working properly on my PC with firefox browser.

On second thought, MyATS is not working properly, unless that is just a sample? Not a single thread on that page is one I am subscribed to.

Like many others here, I am not a big fan of change, but I am very adaptable.
I'll get used to the new format like everyone else.

The only real problem that I have with it is not having a myats link on the main bar. It's good that you are asking for feedback from the members and I hope you are going to take it into account when you make the final changes.

You will need to put the Ribbon somewhere.
I for once, use it all the time.

Quick question, SO. I've looked at the layout, and I like it. I'm currently viewing in on desktop Safari, and it's all working fine. However, I'm curious to know as to whether it shows all of the available threads in every category, or just the top three or five active ones? I tried to access a specific category from the tentative main page, so as to see how the specific categories were displays on their own pages, but the text didn't have a link.

Here's an idea..get rid of a few forums and gradually replace them with better ones.

Agreed

Replace the 9/11 forum with "Cooking with the Stars".

It looks simpler to operate. I use a computer so it doesn't matter to me, but people with I-phones and kindles will benefit.

You should make sure the logo is all the way visible, it is the most important aspect to have a strong brand.

I agree it looks like a coding error.

Perhaps put a glow coming from below so that way people may create their own metaphor for the reason for the light coming from below. When light comes form below it does create an surreal effect that was very common on German horror back in the day. We are very used to always seeing light coming from above like the sun.
