The sidebar doesn't move out of the way and it takes up 1.5 inches of my 2 inch screen

Big concern of mine too.

No. Since the original post mentioned it's not yet responsive for smaller screens, all smart phones will be having trouble with the menu.

Ah...just read the response.

That's unfortunate.

I just briefly checked out the "beta" test page. It's kinda cool. I think I like it.

i liike it the only thing i would suggest is i like in new topics having flagged and most commented threads separated from fire hose. Other then that having side bar will be nice, and over all appearance is very appealing.

SEPTEMBER, 30 UPDATE

We have a rather radical departure from previous ATS UI structure for our members to review.

It looks like this...

A persistent left-side menu column that remains fixed throughout all pages and scrolling.

You can review a functioning page prototype here:
Left-Side ATS Menu
(it's not yet designed to be fully responsive across all screens)
This menu system also incorporates some subtle feedback (the little hash marks) as to which menu options automatically load new content into the current page.

The page should be also be blindingly fast. The menu has images, but there are no graphics (and it's not an icon font).

I really (no really) like this from a UI standpoint. All current research into user interactions with cross-screen information (same site on phones, tablets, desktops) is pointing toward sidebar menu systems, and away from top-of-page menus. Please spend some time playing with the available pages, and let me know if this radical change is something that will benefit our users.

Thanks.

SCRAP IT ALL!! Lets go back to 'sript and basics... a'la - AMIGA style!

Think the new site look nice and clear. It would be nice to have a little notification flag on it that told you when you get messages. As it is you have to click your message button. Click on your message. Then click the link to open it.

ATS.5/3 Recent Posts

Much more simple, four tabs, no pagination.

What? No pagination? Scroll to the bottom to see why.

I absolutely love it! I enjoy all of the changes being made! It looks great, also keeps things fresh and new! Just adding to my list of why its my all time favorite website. You can't beat the ATS experience! Keep up the great work!

Woohooo! This looks GREAT!!!

Can't wait for it to be implemented!
Keep up the good work ATS crew!!!!!!

Maybe a tip: If you have looked into a topic. Make that visible in the overview that you've looked at the topic.
Somewhat like in a mailclient the difference between read/unread. Next to that if you subscribed to a thread and have it in myATS. Mark the topics with new replies different then the ones who don't have new replies since you've last time visited the thread. [Just my 2 cents

Yes please to the new scrolling menu but may I suggest you stick with the width and contrasting colors in the main view as it is at the moment. The contrast on the new page is poor and it is looking very busy which means it is hard to focus on anything.

The pale green, yellow and blue against a grey background is not reader friendly at all. The section is also too wide to make it readable.

I personally like the current ATS color scheme and do not see why you need to change that. With the added scrolling menu ATS as it is now is great. This blue background is really very calming on the eyes.

If you stick to three topics wide and keep the blue background I believe you have a winning concept.

Since i'm not always the greatest at explaining I put together an example of what I ment
