Even though this was cool - why wasn't the kid arrested for violating the air space or some other FAA law?

You cannot just have people doing this all over the place willy nilly. His balloon could have been sucked up by a 747 and caused the deaths of all on board.

Did he have proper permission and air clearance before hand?

And he didn't even capture a UFO.

The chances of that are slim to none... Now if it was a large group of individuals setting these off then that possibility goes up substantially. IIRC I watched tests of jet engines take frozen chickens and eat them no problem so I think a dinky little camera and styrofoam box wouldn't bring a plane down.
