It looks like our big brother took another one for us in the SOL system. Jupiters masive gravity pulls in and cleans out most of the incoming but it makes me think that we are not all that immune to impacts...

Just look at the moon and you know how immune we are.
Nice shot, I wonder is there enough oxygen to produce fireballs?

I think its more like a plasma-ball, powered by the abrupt intrusion and deceleration of a 10m asteroid in Jupiters' athmosphere. Every gasous substance would light up if heated enough.

Would of been better if there was a video to it.

Oh well.

Okay, this is slightly (or largely) off-topic, but could you explain to me the reason to use the word "of" instead of the correct "have"? I read it regularly in the last months, like a new mem or something..?

There is a video. It will eventually be posted on the "Jupiter Alerts" page here. I'll update this thread when it is posted. Incidentally, please note that this event was reported and recorded by amateur astronomers, not NASA.

I notice this a lot too.

Some people spell 'would've' as 'would of'.

I don't know why.

People do that so often that it doesn't even register with me anymore. I guess you say I'm used of it. Yikes!
