Brown pelicans are no longer an endangered species and are not protected by federal law.
The state he done this in has a law against killing brown pelicans.
It would have been cheaper to let him eat it and use the entrails as bait for fishing.
I bet he is getting much more nutritious meals now.

Oh wait it seems that this bird is a migratory bird.
So it is protected in a treaty signed by the us and great britan.
en.wikipedia.org...
He should have bought that federal migratory bird hunting stamp

And I'm a big fan of fish, as well as crustaceans, tadpoles and even turtles.
What do pelicans eat?

During periods of starvation, pelicans have been reported capturing and eating seagulls and ducklings.
The gulls are held under water and drowned before being eaten headfirst.

How many days in jail for drowning a duck?

Interesting story, first I will love to read on the whole story but the OP forgot to post the link to the article. Now, I believe that cities have kitchens that supplies meals to the needy in daily basis.

At least here in my neck of the woods in GA we do, they are mostly supported by churches and private donations.

Now, I also believe that Pelicans were protected, now like somebody else posted that could be at federal level and no longer in practice, but also states have their own rules when it comes to wildlife.

Now, cooking a wild birth in a city if that where the man comes from is also against the law to do so, unless he have access to a park that allow camp fires.

So, I find this story by the OP very sad when people have to brake laws to survive in the nation of plenty.

Wow

Last time I checked the law of man applied only to....well....man. We created laws in order to make society somewhat bearable and to keep us from turning into complete savages (and believe me, we are on a thin line with that as it is)

Instead of saying stupid stuff, ask yourself how civilised human beings would/could allow a fellow man to go hungry and die and not do a damn thing about it!!

Peace
