Some Egyptian women are now scared to appear alone or even with female friends in public places

Egypt changing

Campaigners in Egypt say the problem of sexual harassment is reaching epidemic proportions, with a rise in such incidents over the past three months. For many Egyptian women, sexual harassment - which sometimes turns into violent mob-style attacks - is a daily fact of life, reports the BBC's Bethany Bell in Cairo.

Last winter, an Egyptian woman was assaulted by a crowd of men in the city of Alexandria.

In video footage of the incident, posted on the internet, she is hauled over men's shoulders and dragged along the ground, her screams barely audible over the shouts of the mob.

It is hard to tell who is attacking her and who is trying to help.

The case was one of the most extreme - but surveys say many Egyptian women face some form of sexual harassment every day.

www.bbc.co.uk...

So, all I can say and I'm sorry members is: WTF??

Is this because of the rise of freedom in this country that males think they can do what they want.
There is so many thoughts that go through my mind about this subject I can't even think straight, it really is a WTF moment for me.

Not in my wildest dreams would I do any of this S*? I don't know anyone else either? You would have thought this would be a few incidences, but NO! it's everywhere.

Are Egyptian males totally sex crazed? Beats me? This is ridiculous.

There is a reason Egypt has been ruled by pharoahs, kings, and dictators for the last 3000 years... These people have been "free" for like 6 months and they are already brutalizing their women, CRUCIFYING dissenters, and resorted to medieval law...

Sure glad we helped get rid of Mubarak... Such a joke if it wasn't true.

If the BBC thinks this is harassment they should go to spring break sometime.

Your right the difference between an entire countries attitude toward members of the opposite sex, and teen to college age kids who go far away to purposely engage in drunken activity is indistinguishable...

Sure it's the same thing...

How can you tell from these pics that the whole country is acting this way?

filthy sodomites
yeah, you heard me right

the sin of sodom was unhospitality [not homosexuality]
or rather the refusal to live and let live
and the imposition of it's norms through terror and violence [using gang rape]

they should be nailed by their prostates to the doors of the madrasas
and/or mosques that are backing and promoting these terrorists

terrorism is a tool of the state
and has been so since the days of Sodom and Gomorrah
if not earlier

it's all about turning the clock back and "putting women in their place"

note that the rapists excuse is being used here
expect this to escalate to gang rape

the egyptians need to get their crap together and wipe out these
saudi/western backed filth once and for all

Gosh, well put.

Yes I totally agree. It is shocking from a western point of view that this is accepted practice?

Sex pests?

It has always been a bit like this in Egypt and other nearby countries, the accepted norm, even to western women visiting. That same old leery look and a quick touch if possible. But I think this is getting out of hand.

trust me this will eventually escalate to organized rape gangs
i once read about similar crap in pakistan
one case involved a private nurse called at night
the only sick persons there when she arrived were the men that raped her
benazir bhutto established special courts and police stations manned by women as it was quite common for rape victims to be re victimized by the police

its not just in islamic countries
the west has a long history of this kind of thing

look into Great britains role in the creation of Mau Mau
and similar

my family has a little experience with religiously motivated terror
back in the 50's a great aunt of mine was knifed in the buttocks and my grandma slashed [she barely dodged]

for wearing pants.

by a gang of moralizing thugs and self proclaimed champions of morality that called themselves "los comandos "
[not to be confused with the puertorican nationalist group using the same name]

The males of a particular religious group are basically allowed to do whatever
they want to any female that walks by them. All unescorted females are considered
fair game.If the female is sexually abused or raped it is considered her fault for
not having a male family member as her escort.

REALLY? JHC! What is going on! What next hey? The term "there a thick as two short planks" is not lost on this nation hey?

It's amazing to see really, the world is such a small place, I'm surprised this happens or is allowed to happen.

I'm trying really hard not to tar every male with the same brush in Egypt but unfortunately my experience of them is one in which I will remain tight lipped.
