If the roles were reversed.. well lets ponder this.

Do you see less rape of the civilian populace? I don't.
Do you see less atrocity even under the geneva convention? I don't.
Suddenly I see a people with western influence being persecuted en masse by the forces who have come on by.

I see resistance yes. But to what extent? Barry with a pvc cannon aimed at bobs house? We're already there.

If the roles were reversed.... well, in reality there would be no news about it. You'd be targetted for your religion. Hell, killed for the colour of your skin.

But that's just how the enemy work. I'm making it all up. Why if they don't have strawberry haired little girls handing you lollypops and ice cream, I must be a bastard!

All I'm saying is that people have lost family, friends just like the people we have around us on a daily basis. Imagine your best friend being raided in front of your eyes and being shot for being a good citizen... The same has and is happening in Afghanistan (Not every Afghan is Taliban or terrorist) and I understand why a few would take their chance at knocking out a few occupying soldiers and getting revenge. The media can powdercoat it all they want but I'm sure more afghans habe died compared to allied forces. For each death you would think someone cared about that person also

The report said he shot three Australians and then scaled a fence and ran off. He ran off. Must have been a fast runner.

I am not anti-war. I am against this so called 'war' though.

Also, I do not really mean to offend you. The soldiers have little responsbilty at the end of the day. The government and the command of the military is the problem. The Australian public is also the problem. We do need a defence force. We do not ned them to be doing stuff like this in my opinion.

edit- I do not mean any real offence or to place all blame on the soldiers. I dont think that I have.

Setting aside the rights or wrongs of Australia's involvement in the Afghan conflict.It would appear that the unit in question received "intelligence" on the location of Taliban fighters/supporters who had been involved in recent"blue on green" attacks involving Australian forces.Now,it shouldn't come as any great surprise that in a combat zone,errors are made,that is a given,and it may(or may not) be the case that innocents were targetted by Australian forces,but instead of castigating the troops themselves,who are fighting in an incredibly difficult environment,you need to keep the pressure up on those who would send them there,at least you Australians seem to be one of the few nations who don't buy into all the Jingoistic bull# that seems to be the norm these days.
Now, if only we in the UK could grow a collective pair and join you in your condemnation.

I agree.

I do not really think innocents were targeted. Especially by the individual sodiers. It does seem that mistakes were made though and it seems that Australia and its military are not open to people being critical of them. I also think that if it was American Soldiers that the Afghan President accused of killing innocent civillians then the international media would be giving them a much harder time. It seems like Australia has a free pass comapred to the United States.
