A magnitude 7.9 earthquake has hit the eastern part of Philippines, triggering a tsunami warning for the region.
According to the US Geological Survey, the major quake occurred on Friday at a depth of 33 kilometers (20 miles) at 8:47 p.m. local time (1247 GMT) some 139 kilometers east of the city of Sulangan.
A tsunami warning has been issued for the Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan and Japan following the tremor.
