The word Korea derives from the word Goryeo. Goryeo is the name from Goguryeo which was an old country in the North of Korean peninsula up to very North East Russia. Goguryeo has two parts. "Go" and "Gauriy". "Go" in Chinese means High, Top level, Heavenly. "Gauriy" or in nowadays Chinese "Gauli" means Beautiful Northern Country. The word Korea in an ancient language 'Goryeo' means the Beautiful Country in the North. /Q

Do you have any ideas why they changed the name with a K in the front? Also who was the one who named it Korea in the first place?

Korea was originally called Goryeo, due to the Goryeo kingdom ruling most of the Korean peninsula and being the largest of the three kingdoms.

When the kingdom was visited by Persian traders in the 4th century, they couldn't pronounce the name, and instead referred to the land as Koryo. In the 5th century, under the rule of King Jangsu of Goguryeo, the name was officially changed to Koryo. Over the centuries, it evolved to the current pronunciation and spelling of Korea.

How did the pronunciation change from G to K just because a few Persian came over for a trade?

Pronunciation. Instead of a "gu" sound, they pronounced the word with a "ku" sound. Then that particular pronunciation of the word caught on.

There is no exact Romanisation of the Korean letters. Even in the same town/city you will see signs that interchange B/P T/D. In their language there is no difference in the pronunciation.

What is sad is that the North Korean People are so Brain Washed that they are raised to believe that their Leader and DICTATOR FOR LIFE is a living GOD! Even if a North Korean Citizen is caught just LOOKING at the South with a pair of Binoculars or Telescope...as the North does not want their people to see South Korean Wealth...this person can be Jailed or Beaten or most likely BOTH!

North Korea has grown so out of line crazy that even China was caught in the weki links release telling the U.S. that they were trying to reign in the North but the North was acting like a Spoiled Brat.

While they try to build an ICBM and Nuke to place atop...their people STARVE and I mean actually STARVE TO DEATH...as reports of over one to two million deaths by starvation have been calculated. Split Infinity

"Korea" is the name as spelt in the western alphabet, not the Chinese writing system, and therefore, by definition, being used by outsiders.
Meanwhile there's room for disagreement, and changes happen, in the way Chinese sounds get translated into western letters. E.g. the ancient city of Peking is now being disguised under the spelling Beijing.

Not everyone is corrupt though. There are good people and there are even good people in Politics as well as I wish people would understand that a U.S. Soldier and especially one that has experienced war or a "CIVILIAN" like myself in the way the quotes denote...well...we are the the people who HATE WAR THE MOST!

Sometimes things must be done that are in and of themselves...Distasteful...but they are done in an effort to promote STABILITY. THAT is the name of the game...stability. Without it...we get things like WWI, WWII, Cold War antics that have come back to bite us but if they were not done...and there are MANY cases where they could have been done better and mistakes were made...we would have had WWIII. People in general who have not experienced real EVIL and CRUELTY do not have a frame of reference to understand. But those same people who say there is NEVER an excuse for Violence will change into Murderous Animals if it is their family that is experiencing this type of Brutality. The average person sitting at home posting from their comfortable state of living must try to understand this and what would they do or want done if they were the ones being victimized? I have seem some unbelievable acts that people who label their protectors would be in a state of shock from just witnessing these acts. That is why unless you have experienced it...you can't understand it.

I have tried my best to decipher your post. There seems to be missing words, that end up not really portraying what you are actually trying to say. Who hasn't seen someone receive punishment in the form of violence?

Your wall of text is illegible until you learn common punctuation and paragraph spacing.

Citation, please? Your comment has no basis. In addition, if the NK's are so poor, then how can they afford a telescope or binoculars?

The people are not brain washed, go there and you will see for yourself.

I do have a habit of run-on sentences. LOL!

What I was trying to convey is that people who have never experienced something....do not have a template to use to make an informed opinion on what they have no experience or true understanding. You have to experience Violence of an extreme Cruelty and Brutality to be able to see why statements they have made such as...there is never an excuse good enough to justify Military Action.

When I read a person claiming all U.S. Soldiers as Murderers...I know they have never been on the receiving end of their own Government acting in a manner which is so Brutal and Vicious that if they had experienced this...they would no longer believe there is no possible justification for Violent Action.
