Technogical innovation isn't something you learn from school. Innovation comes from a culture which rewards people for original concepts. Sadly most schools punish innovative thinking.

The biggest problems the East faces is the extreme conformity that their culture enforces.

Pure capitalism, socialism, communism, and all free market schemes in general are all unrealistic ideals that never succeed. Market economics are not so ideal.

A properly functioning market is no more natural than civilization.

I'm not convinced the whole exploitation of the masses step is a necessary component. It has yet to work out in most of the third world.

The S Korea model should be the way to go, and that means keeping corporations in check.

You know I find that the only thing in the universe that doesn't work out is our unnatural civilization. Nature always seems to find a healthy balance, survived and thrived for billions of years without mankind's input. Everything in nature simply works, moreover nature has created flight, computers(brain) and nuclear fusion(stars) before we were even close to a species.

Not to sound like a jerk towards the human race, we've accomplished some amazing things, but we put whales in captivity and they refuse to mate and become depressed. We put apes in captivity and they go bonkers and rip peoples faces off. We put elephants in captivity and they rampage. We put humans in captivity and... Well we're depressed, irritable and often violent. Hmmm...

As far as school is concerned, I completely concur. School stifles creativity and development, how is one supposed to learn how to think up new ideas when they are punished for drawing outside of the lines? How can one come up with new ideas if they are punished every time they think of something that hasn't already been thought of?

You make some valid points about civilization. Many of America's early pioneers came here to escape civilization, but don't forget nature is very dangerous. In nature there are no property rights, and killing, raping, and pillaging are standard practices.

Free markets are not natural either, which is why they don't exist.

True, but I feel that a more natural way of life could be far more satisfying if we were to use our intelligence capacity to understand that there is more to be had with friends than without friends. That is, should we be absolutely free and understand that we need each other in order to succeed and survive then there would be the understanding that there is no logic behind murder and rape. I believe that things such as murder and rape are products of the disbelief in equality. When one feels jealous or outcast they may become angered or begin to lose confidence in themselves, it is in this anger that they murder and in this lack of confidence that they rape. Merely my opinion of course.

It does seem as though this is getting a bit off-topic here and understand if this post needs to be removed.

It is not the place of an aid agency to 'develop', it is the role of aid agencies to respond to crisis. While I can see what you may be implying, the corporations while seeming to improve conditions, are not doing so across the board, they are merely applying a veneer that make the prospect of redeployment for their western personnel and their families more attractive and hospitable. Those at the bottom, remain there, but they are simply less obvious, and usually, in the case of places such as Nigeria and the Congo, hidden away in enclaves.

I think that you have that arse backwards. You seem to be the idealist here, or at least, you seem to believe the glossy brochure. Yes people want work, not handouts, but they also want a future that is sustainable. Another example, and one most suited to the argument that you have given. The Carpathian mountains are incredibly rich in minerals, currently the mining companies, using the very same argument that you are, are promising jobs to the local population if they allow them to buy their land and support their concessions. Given that there is gold in some of those thar hills, the benefits will be massive, and of course, the economy will boom. And boy do those people need a boom. But, look at the small print. The operations proposed have a life expectancy of 20 years...and all the technical expertise will be imported, not to mention the fact that the process by which the gold is to be extracted involves a highly environmentally toxic arsenic effulent that will likely decimate what is the most biodiverse area in Europe.... What happens after 20 years? Bust and most definately broken.

I don't lack realism, I can assure you.

In a circular society we would see little need for trade or things such as money. People could simply share with each other. For instance, a farmer might grow plenty of food and with modern technology he could easily grow far more than he and his family require. Anything extra could just go to whomever needs it. You might say that people are too greedy and would simply wipe out all of the farmer's food. If said people knew what was in their own best interests they'd know that if they did such a thing the farmer would soon starve and as a result they too would soon starve. They would know that if they left enough food for the farmer that he would continue to grow more and they too would continue to receive more. So too would they know that if they left enough food not only for the farmer, but also for others such as computer programmers then the programmers would have the time and life they need to make video games to entertain, or even programs that could help the farmer do his job better so there's even more food to go around. Today we don't teach things like this in school, in fact all school seems to teach is how to pretend like you're better or smarter than someone else. School does not teach how to share, only how to hoard. How to make money to obtain things for yourself and keep them locked up gathering dust so no other can use them.

On the surface, yes they do appear to be in mortal competition with each other. Under the covers though, they are all owned by the same tiny handful of entities who own darn near everything. This study was a real-eye opener on that front and it didn't go as far down the rabbit hole as it could/should have. This was based on 2007 data about corporate ownership. To be sure, there's been a fair bit more consolidation of power and control since then. No sense letting a global financial crisis go to waste...

So the world is ran by bankers and insurance companies. Businesses that build nothing, create nothing, which are supposed to provide a service, but instead have manuvered themselves into a position where they now control the world

They are nothing but giant parasites that feed off of the economy, giving nothing back.

The market system doesn't work without competition. So what ever you want to call this, it is not a market economy, nor is it democracy, or a republic. Conservatives have conned people with the free market scheme into re-establishing a ruling elite.
