There are some new RATs out that can actually record key strokes in order, without the use of a keylogger. I dont understand why anyone still uses windows

especially since the new windows 8 is a train-wreck and only makes sense on a tablet...

Note: this could apply to LED monitors. NOT LCD monitors, but LEDs.

As explained in that thread, the application of the described technology to spy is completely false. The article might as well have explained how oranges can be used to exploit antigravity for levitation. There is presently zero threat of a standard monitor bieng used to spy on you.

Because of the games I think. I used Linux exclusively for 3 years but when I bought a new computer, I wanted to do some gaming, and ended up booting into Windows a lot... and it became convenient to stay in that environment even while doing web stuff.

But Linux these days is truly excellent and fun. I kind of miss it, and will probably go back to it when Im not gaming anymore.

Windows security is based on trusting Microsoft, so.... =)

A huge majority of the public is easily fooled into thinking that software cameras exist. This became evident in a viral Power Point Presentation that stated that it could do that. Most people would pose for the "software picture". It is hard to believe that so many people are so ignorant on how a camera or a computer work.

RAT's is short for "Remote Access Trogan" most anti virus will pick up on this type of virus unless it a a "Zero Day" virus (of which almost no one is immune to). Some forms of RAT's are keyloggers which can and will log all key strokes made on the infected computer. The primary message here is to keep your anti-virus updated regardless of what operating system you are using.

You can always "dual Boot". Linux is a excellent OS. Linux can be a secondary "Go To" OS". Linux has a install named "Wine" that can emulate a Windows OS for most games.

I use keysrambler add on it works for Firefox and internet explorer so key loggers get nothing but gibberish.
Maybe the tech the o.p. speaks of will work in the near future but I doubt it happens now.

Thats like straight from the public relations memo.

Personally I think there is a lot of incentive for these companies to develop and release their own viruses in order to make their antivirus product sell.

If you have a laptop with a built in webcam, put a piece of tape over it ( I did). If you have an external USB webcam, unplug it when you are not using it. Simple fixes ;-) Same thing applies to sound cards, if it's internal on a laptop, add an external soundcard and direct all traffic to it or unplug your microphone on your external.

Cheers - Dave

Thanks I already have blu tac on the webcam, but sorry you did not get the gist of the OP or else you skimmed
whilst reading.
Visual capture devices ..no Iam not going to say it, it will make someone rich who doesn't deserve it, but no its already happenning so Iam jsut parroting about existing technology.

I need to rest my weary eyes from prying eyes.

You're right I did skim, late here as well, 2am. I suppose pop-ups, if advanced enough could use the LCD array to read light via interference feedback. But I highly doubt that this kind of technology is available in the abilities of the LCD monitors, the pop-ups are just script, it isn't really even programming as far as I am concerned and therefore not really that powerful a tool. Can you imagine the complex interaction of a light source driven by specific current trying to read a summation pattern caused by local interference factors and then having to have the extremely complex software to turn what is read into something visually viable? Like most say on here, if your paranoid about it, < snip >. You can get a good cookie blocker too like ghostery and you can run collusion as well to monitor. But in Firefox you can kill most cookies and pop-ups just by setting the options right. Btw, perfect paranoia is perfect awareness ;-)

All hail Videodrome, long live the new flesh!

Cheers - Dave

My post was a bit unclear. I did dual boot, but found that I just kept using Windows out of convenience instead of rebooting the computer to do something else than gaming. I know a lot about wine and linux after running Linux for three years as my only operating system, and I highly recomment it to anybody who is curious.

You make a sensible and logical point, exactly what those ho know differently want us to read .

The world has changed, just as a blind man has his world changed when given a guide dog.

Vision capture by lens , is now no longer required....but we are not meant to know this...not yet.

Think sensing, sensors,it is really rather simple.

Open up , and meditate on it.

Think Guy Ritchie that song...some young nerd heard it and transposed the crux, an dthirty years on....lens free sight.

Imagine.

But the wires only go one way. I suppose they could sneak some wires, and even a regular photoreceptor, into the monitor, and all the computers, but somebody would notice these extra wires. I built my PC, and it cannot get any info from the monitor.

Yes you make excellent points but you are thinking hardware not software.

That is why I mention Lionel Ritchie and his song "Hello" is it me your waiting for.

The video clip of the song is what inspired the software ....no hardware on earth,,, reality of the present technology.

But it requires meditating on .....?

I hope you can latch on .

I had this thought of people spying on me and such through my webcams for like 4-5 years ago, so I've actually always kept my webcam pointing towards nothing ! Only uses it because it has an amazing mic on it.

And why do these webcams have these highly sensitive mics aswell? Friends could hear me take a dump and stuff

All of the meditating in the world isn't going to change the fact that software by itself is not capable of detecting an image.
