Zombie Awareness: Effective Practices in Promoting Disaster Preparedness
Thursday, September 6th
3:00 p.m. EDT

Are you ready for a “Zombie Apocalypse?” Join FEMA’s Individual and Community Preparedness Division and Ready.gov on September 6 as they present a FREE Webinar about zombie preparedness. While the walking dead may not be first on your list of local hazards, zombie preparedness messages and activities have proven to be an effective way of engaging new audiences who may not be familiar with what to do before, during, or after a disaster, and to inject a little levity into preparedness while still informing and educating people. As director of the Center for Disease Control, Dr. Ali Khan, notes, "If you are generally well equipped to deal with a zombie apocalypse you will be prepared for a hurricane, pandemic, earthquake, or terrorist attack."

Listen as speakers introduce fun and innovative emergency preparedness activities for communities to spark some attention and get people involved before it’s too late. These activities can be planned in September, during National Preparedness Month and executed just in time for Halloween.

Featured Speakers Include:

Center for Disease Control (CDC), which launched its Zombie Apocalypse Social Media Campaign
Kansas Department of Emergency Management will discuss their Zombie Awareness Month, which is held each October and ideas for activities and events that you can host in your communities this fall!

Ummmm.....

At least they have a sense of humor, right?

Maybe it will help the average joe learn about being prepared. They will be curious and want to sign up?
I can still imagine that 1 person though, that thinks that fema is really believing the zombie apocalypse.

DON'T DO IT!!! It is an information harvest to find out where you live so they can come put you in a FEMA Camp and disperse your supplies amongst themselves like modern day pirates. Don't take the bait... fess up to an underground bunker and George Soros will be sitting in it instead of you and your family.

*The CDC is running this into the ground... No pun intended.

LOL , but you never know.

You'd think Soros would have a better place to go, maybe he'd place one of his friends in it.

Howdy! This seems odd. Is it a joke to the CDC to do this?! I guess everyone just loves a good zombie awareness get together. I do wonder about the cdc's plans. Are they expecting something to transpire soon?? It's kinda scary, and with the comment above-that this is just a plan to get our info- well that seems very viable! It does remind me of my little sister who is 12- her and her friends play like there is a zombie attack and what they would do and where they would go,she would love to go to something like this.

Im pretty sure expressing your belief in a zombie apocolypse, and owning a gun, will get you in a psych ward. And I doubt being prepared for zombies means the exclusion of a gun. And so why do we have fbi counter terrorists, when it should be fbi counter zombie force? this is bait

There not trying to be funny, there trying to educate people in a way that will attract alot more people than usual. They tried it before and obviously it was a huge success because they are continuing to do the same.

Oh you can get their "fun new graphic novel, "Preparedness 101: Zombie Pandemic" demonstrates the importance of being prepared in an entertaining way that people of all ages will enjoy. Readers follow Todd, Julie, and their dog Max as a strange new disease begins spreading, turning ordinary people into zombies." too, to go along with the free poster. Would any parent utilize this crap to inform their kids? Is this appropriate? Are these people crazy? This is what they're spending our money on. The loons have certainly taken over the asylum.

Are you serious? Is this the way to educate? It's responsible to equate some outbreak of a virus or disease with Zombies? Seems most fictional movies have people running from Zombies, not helping them. This is just lunacy.

I'd say they are trying to educate people on how to be prepared for an emergency since most people aren't.

And they are using the lastest craze which is Zombies to get the message out there.

Where i live everybody is armed at least 3 guns to every household, it would be real odd not to have a gun up here.

But on the other hand the FBI and Homeland Security see you as a terrorist if you do prepare for an emergency and have more then a few days worth of supplies.

The Govt maybe fishing for info. and this is a way to get it. who knows.

DHS and the FBI are suspicious of everyone as it is, especially if you use cash and buy in bulk.

But if any emergency comes up i'am not gonna depend on the Govt for help and sit and wait for them , I'd rather avoid them at all costs, I'd rather be ready for anything on my own, like i have in the past.

FEMA already has my name and adress, so i'am not worried about that, i was within the disaster zone from Irene last year, in upstate NY. they stopped by to access my property damage and creek erosion and gave permission to restore and reclaim the land washed away. they also asked if i needed assistance and food, water and clothing . But I got away lucky unlike a lot of people around the area who weren't so lucky as i was and I didn't need there help. FEMA still has an out reach center in my area.
