The US military attempted twice to rescue 2 American and one British hostage in Iraq. Both attempts failed due to the captives not being where they thought. All three men were beheaded in recent weeks.

The United States tried twice to rescue the two Americans and one British citizen held hostage in Iraq, according to a U.S. official with direct knowledge of the attempts.

The attempts involved deploying U.S. military as well as other government personnel on two separate occasions. The rescue attempts were executed at two locations in Baghdad based on intelligence, the official said.

Both times, the source said, the missions came up with what the source called "dry holes."

It's good to see that the military do not forget about these hostages but are actively trying to rescue them. Perhaps this will give more hope to the families of those that are not held hostages and future hostages.

I think that it would be very difficult to try to find anyone in that situation. Intelligence, unfortunately, always seems to be a step behind, like when Clinton talks about missing Osama by 5 mins. I wonder how many "spider holes", like they found Saddam in, there are spread out all over Iraq. I just hope this mess gets better soon. It seems that we are becoming increasingly conditioned to the fact that hostages are going to be taken and beheaded. I think we're expecting that now. What a shame this is our world.

I'm wondering if they are just saying this to ease the pain of the familys of those who were killed in Iraq. Did the SAS try the same thing aswell or was it just the US special forces guess well never know that one at least they tried.
