Astronomers have constructed the largest-ever 3D map of massive galaxies and distant black holes, which will help better explain the mysterious ‘dark matter’ and ‘dark energy’ that make up 96 percent of the Universe.
"We want to map the largest volume of the Universe yet, and to use that map to understand how the expansion of the Universe is accelerating,” said Daniel Eisenstein of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, director of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III (SDSS-III).
