Scott McKenzie, who became famous in the sixties with his hit 'San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)'. has died aged 73.

The singer was found at home in his Los Angeles home by a neighbour. He had been suffering Gullain-Barre Syndrome, a disease which affects the nervous system.

Phillips was instrumental in forming The Mamas and Papas, but opted to quit the band to pursue a solo career. His hit single became an anthem for the 'flower power' generation.

"I think he had a heart attack this most recent time. He was in the hospital. They did not want him to leave the hospital, but he wanted to be in his house," said neighbour Victoria Byers.

His recording career began in the early sixties when he was a member of The Journeyman, recording three albums with banjo player Dick Weissman before splitting in 1964.

'San Fancisco' was a No.4 hit in the US in 1967.

Take a few moments to listen to a class song at a great time in history.........RIP Scott McKenzie.....
