The greatest Christmas present I ever had was in 1975.....

I had a light blue Raleigh Chopper bike........

We were not well off, we had not much money, but my dad went out and got me a second hand bike, cleaned it up and I drove It into the ground from day one.............

Outside, exercise and socialising with other kids.....

Better than being stuck in the bedroom staring at a TV/monitor and getting fat and unfit like today's ungrateful beings.........

Do you, with respect, understand that everything now is from you and your parents??

Ungrateful, but ungrateful for what was given.

I am more sorry for these younger kids than even for me.

What should they care for. Give me an example of leadership or roll models they could follow/model. what is it that they are left with to care about?

My girlfriend teaches kids, and I think she does a better job at that, changing our future for the better, than whatever it is you older people did. (once again with respect).

Why do you think kids are responsible for how they are perceiving the world when it is these kids that are taught what to think..????
Why should I be happy with the current state of affairs? ?

Yes we in the west have become a pampered bunch, who seek immediate gratification in every aspect of our lives. Heaven forbid the internet goes down. There is a website and meme called "First world problems" that highlights the nature of our pampered state.

Having said all that, despite my health issues, I still find myself being more happy than unhappy. I have great friends and family and am lucky to live in a beautiful part of the world. Things could be so much worse. I try not to take these things for granted. The vast majority of the worlds population have it a lot worse than most of us in the west can imagine. Almost half the world, 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 a day.

Depends on your socioeconomic status. There are still many who know what it is like to feel truly hunger, to starve still in America. It is just that new job's fit into two categories. Either really good paying job's are really bad paying jobs.

The people in the first category worry about mundane things, while the later worry about the electric bill, gas, oil, food, medicine. Some could say "work harder", but that is a lie. The only thing harder work will get you is an early grave for your troubles.

What is that? Oh.. a computer of some sort?

Hehe, I was well behind when it came to my first computer (didn't get one 'till after high school) or even an Atari (never got one). I remember when it first came out, my brother and I wanted one bad, but my parents said no way - the excuse was that they weren't going to buy us something that they were going to have to turn around and upgrade right away... Man, little did they know what was around the corner for electronics, 'eh?

My dad used to make my brother go change the channel for him!
Those days before remotes...

Funny, I remember dad doing that, but I don't remember not having a remote. Weird

Sounds like your dad had a remote regardless.

My first computer as a teen was this:

A Timex Sinclair 1000, with a whole 1k of memory!

A year later, I upgraded to this:

A Commadore Vic 20 with a whole 3k of memory!

A couple of years after that, I was in the Navy and repairing one of these:

It's a AN/UYK-20 that also had 3k of memory....but it was made of.....wait for it.......magnetic core memory! (talk about taking a step backwards!).

Had to load the program up with a very large reel to reel tape system!

Of course that beat the old paper tape loading system, hehehehehe.

You all were talking about remotes.......one day I couldn't find mine for the DVR, so I shrugged and went up to it to punch the pause button.....but there wasn't one! That's what I hate, electronics that depend upon a remote to work!

I WAS the remote, for my Grandfather !

Also the Rabbit Ear Technician......

When I was a kid and my Grandmother passed away we inherited a big color console TV with a remote that really made a clicking sound when you pushed the buttons. 3 days later the younger of my two older sisters came running into the living room tripped and spilled the glass of milk she was carrying into the back of the TV and POOF!

My parents said that's THAT. We for the next 2 years watched the old tiny black and white tube..

We had a similar incident but...we had 2 TV's (my mom remarried) I think I spilled soda on one and lost the sound, the picture went out on the other one...So my Dad stacks them on top of each other. Had to get up change the channel (4 channels back then) on both! LOL

In the 1930’s massive dust storms from the Midwest struck New York City. The American dream was said to have died. In the 1940’s 30 Million people died in a war. In the 1950’s another 20 Million in China, another 10 million died at the hand of Stalin in the USSR. Americans were ruined simply for the wrong political belief. Black Americans were being lynched from trees and the KKK elected Governors well into the 1960’s.

In the 1960’s an American president, his brother and a Man preaching Civil Rights were murdered. Churches were being bombed and American Cities were on fire.

By the 1970’s 50 Thousand American youth had died in Vietnam and Unemployment was double digits as were gas price increases, one president resigned in disgrace, another lost reelection and was called a failure.
Suck it up. These ARE the good time. At least you missed Disco. What Whiners.
