A few things:
1. Firstly, the image does look very Earth-like. However, that does not necessarily mean that we are not looking at Mars here. If Mars was once covered with water, then we would expect sandstone (and, possibly, limestone, if marine life evolved) and other sedimentary rock to be present
2. Just a new thought: has anyone considered that the finger/penis could actually be a shell? If you look at the way it widens at the top, it does look similar to some of the sea-shells we have here on Earth.
Any thoughts?

The finger-penis also seems to have a striated/rippled appearance, as one would expect on a sea-shell.

It's not a finger penis in the desert of mars!!! Damn, no wonder everyone thinks we are conspiracy nuts. ( a finger penis in the desert...."we don't have those in earth deserts" he says...sheesh! ) It is just a curiously shaped rock and your filthy eyes decided to see a penis because you may secretly be in love with your mother....hey MOD, it's from Sigmund Freud...not me, he channeled through me to say that....I tried to stop him but he was stronger than I.edit on 16-8-2012 by Phenomium because: (no reason given)

Seems a whole new crop needs a lesson in pareidolia.
Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant. Common examples include seeing images of animals or faces in clouds, the man in the moon or the Moon rabbit, and hearing hidden messages on records when played in reverse.
Or fingers on Mars.

Come on man! This blatantly looks like the underside of any gentlemans penis.
(Or a finger-penis, if you prefer).
(I flipped the finger-penis image, for your viewing pleasure).
You might need to look down more, friend.

That one small rock by the tire track looks like a washed rock! A washed rounded rock shows water erosion usually! Looks like they may be trying to cover that up, or something about the rover itself.
Just my guess!
