I just got done watching the series The Wire and i'm sure glad I did. This is the best television HBO has ever had on their network, that's for sure. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.

The show starts off in the streets of inner-city Baltimore, focusing on the drug trade and it's effects on the police and the drug dealers.

The show then moves on to the docks of Baltimore, the struggle of the blue collar worker and the demise of the Unions.

After the docks, the show moves back to the streets, where the police try new methods to try and combat the drug trade.

Then, the Wire moves on to the inner-city school system and exposes how utterly broken the system is. We also get to see a politician run for mayor and all the problems that brings.

In the last season of The Wire, the show introduces the media, and shows how that connects to the previous seasons.

I cannot recommend this series enough. It really shows how the drug trade is connected to everything. I didn't go into much detail here for those that haven't seen it but don't let that fool you. The show requires your attention. This is not a casual watch by any means.

Deadwood. Six Feet Under. Rome. OZ.

I have not seen the Wire yet! I am sure it's great. Most HBO (and Showtime) series are! Still, it would surprise me if I thought it was better than the ones I just mentioned

You've got to see it. Not only is it a good show, it's very realistic and exposes some of this country's problems and how messed up the system is.

It's better than those shows you listed.

If you've seen it, you wouldn't be calling that garbage good. That show is filled with sex scenes to draw viewers in. In The Wire, there are few sex scenes because the creators of the show recognize it's viewers intelligence. It relies on story more than sex scenes.

Sorry man. Anyone that says Game of Thrones is garbage is an opinion I can't relate too

Yeah there is nudity in GoT. So?? Damn anyone that watches HBO or Showtime shows I would think would not be against that!
I don't agree sex scenes is all that show has to offer. I think it's a great story.

Seems we disagree a bit on ATS. No biggie. I will probably watch the Wire soon as I try too watch all the cable shows.

I love The Wire too. The character of Snoop has got to be the most chilling psychopath I've ever seen portrayed. If you haven't seen it yet this spoof of the show is hilarious.

I don't know, I guess it wasn't my style. I felt like the sex scenes were deviating from the story. But i'm glad our disagreement won't stop you from watching The Wire.

Yeah I guess I am just not sensitive to that. Have you seen Spartacus? I like that show a lot too and that one is guilty of using sex and nudity to draw viewers in.

No, but I am interested in the time period. It has to be reasonably realistic though. Which would you reccommend? Spartacus or Rome?

I saw the 'survival' movie The Grey the other day. I didn't even finish it because it was so fake. I know it's entertainment but some level of realism is nice.

Oh Rome. For realism and just overall. Rome was great... really the only reason it was cancelled was due to really expensive production cost. If realism is important than Rome no contest.

Did the story end well when it was cancelled? I hate when a story ends before it's due time. Especially a mediocre ending.

It just ended more or less.

Which for me is better than them forcing an ending because they know the show is getting cancelled. I hate that. There was a show called 'Awake' this year that was awesome but it got cancelled so they 'ended' the show. The ending was bad it ruined the whole series.

So yeah... not a satisfying ending but only just because there wasn't new episodes

Oh yeah, I watched Awake. It was pretty decent (till the end). You really can't trust any new shows will make it another season, especially with NBC. I wish the sci-fi channel or someone would have picked it up. But anyway, thanks for the tip.

Snoop wasn't just a character. Felicia "Snoop" Pearson essentially plays herself on the show.

She was the real deal: grew up on the streets of Baltimore, worked for drug dealers from an early age, she killed people and served jail time before she was 18. Basically she got lucky meeting "Omar" in a bar. He introduced her to the producers and they put her in the show.

She was recently arrested again for drug offenses.
