I see the Aussies aren't doing very well in the Olympics though,
But then, if they could run they wouldn't have been Australians in the first place.

We'd be killing it if they had events like pick-pocketing and general thievery though

I work in tourism at the moment and meet people from all over the globe, and I can say it's always a pleasure to chat with Americans visiting our country. Always polite, always good for a laugh, and I just hope they enjoy their time here.
Some attitudes that surface may just be due to the fact that so much of our entertainment and news comes from the US - I couldn't imagine hitting the States and flicking through tv channels to find only Aussie shows on, but that's what it's like here. I think Australia just needs to make some bigger splashes around the place, try and lead the pack on a few things.
One thing I would LOVE to see though - an all American AFL team with enough skill and guts to go head to head with an all Oz team. Now a best of 5 series of that - man, I reckon the cities throughout Australia and the United States would come to a halt and be glued to the game. Can you imagine it? Cracker!
