"We were promised the remains any and all remains of the victims and now we discover that my lost son is to spend eternity in a rubbish dump," said Diane Horning, whose son Matthew, 24, died in the North Tower, where he worked for the insurance company Marsh and McLennan. "This is morally reprehensible and emotionally unacceptable, and we are going to fight it all the way."

Matthew Horning made two mobile phone calls to his family after the first jet struck the World Trade Center. He asked his father to tell his fiancee, Maura, that he loved her. His last word, sent on a pager message, was: "Scared."

His mother, who believes that the cost of moving the ashes has been exaggerated tenfold, said: "They have already started bulldozing junk and debris on top of our loved ones and they have left our son in the garbage. They promised that this would never happen, and they are trying to cover up their mistake, literally and figuratively."

If you ask me, this is pretty low, sick, and down right lame for what our Governement can do to these people, and thier families...

What you fail to mention is that the cost of separating the remains from all that derbits is in the neighborhood of 450 Million. And thats just an official estimate by the time the government gets done, it will be twice that if we ae lucky. If your that worked up about it, why don't you start a drive to raise the funds to do so?

Its tragic, but it may not be pretty, but the show must go on.

That's outrageous!!

And as for the cost... believe me, if it was my child, I would be down there as free labor to help sort and to help other families. With all the pork barrel projects running around congress, they can spare some "spare change" for this.

The nation has done what it can under the worst of circumstances. If people want to blame someone for this mess, let them blame bin Laden.

Wait, 50 billion to Haliburton, no problem, 450 million to get the remains of American citizens and give them to their loved ones is to much? WTF!?! That is insane, did Bush&Co just say screw the victim or what?

Who is it that would actually foot the bill for the $450 million? Is that done from the Federal level or the State level?

You are sitting there bringing up the cost.. 100+ billion to help Iraq, ahh 450 million to take that project up, here is what I see is a failure to the US people. Dont give me that sh*t about well if you are so concerned about it go do something about it,
1) they didnt ask to die there.
2) I seriously Bin Laden had much to do about this 9/11 crap
3) they should have done it considering the gvmt said they would.

SO this is another FU comiments of the Bush/Cheney crew.

does it matter we are fooring a bill for a fake war, besides our governement has spent alot more on way wasteful things.

how about 200,000 for the study of nothing..

BTW why did this get moved, this has nothing to do with the war on terror. its a current event.

If they would stop spending money on $20,000 toilets and marble floors and all the other useless crap that the government and I mean the government in general not republican or democrat, but both, perhaps the costs of giving people a decent and final resting place and families closure wouldn't be an issue.

I agree with Byrd, if it was my kid's remain in the dumps, I would be there offering free labor too.

They're far too consumed with the war and winning to honor any culutural or moral misdoings...time is a factor, and one group of people mean nothing compared to the entire nation's safety.

These things will be dealt with in time and those grieving will soon be paid off with assumptions that their misfortunes will be silenced by the almighty dollar. False condolences will be given and they'll wipe their hands of the matter...

Regular people and their woes matter little under this regime...any incovneinces made to you or your family are for the good of the nation...what more could anyone ask for?

I was wondering who was footing/shirking the bill because I'm assuming that whoever is paying for it is the one that said they can't afford it!

At the risk of ruffling a few feathers, and I know I'm new here and all, but...

We're spending over 200 billion (in the long run) in Iraq.

Congress just passed funding in excess of 400 billion for the Pentagon.

Goodness knows how many billions we've spent on homeland defense (and I'm not saying that's a bad thing per say).

We can spend billions to kill, defend, and destroy, but can't spend a few hundred million to put grieving families at ease, and give people who were the first victims of this so-called war on terror an appropriate resting place?

Everyone is free to dissagree of course and I respect everyone's views, but to me this seems like a case of flawed priorities. (And I'm not pinning this on the current administration or any specific political party, but rather on everyone in a position to do something about this who hasn't, in general).

i could understand if nyc couldn't afford it. but im sure there was a lot of that cleanup that was handled directly from the federal government.

Where is FEMA (or the EPMB? whatever acronym) in all of this? Isn't THAT EXACTLY what they are supposed to do? I read somewhere on here earlier that they have all this crazy funding and hightech equipment but they cant fill up dump trucks with ashes and move them to somewhere else that doesnt have 20billion rats?

Thats really low.

I guess if the National guard wasn't in IRAQ, then they would grab shovels and take care of it....

The Gov probably spent more than that preparing for and covering up 9/11, they could have budgeted for the victims to be recoverd too! Bastards!

You know what is sad that the victims of 9/11 and the results of that day were exploited by bush in his campaign, he later exploited to go into Iraq, and now just like bin-ladden is starting to go forgotten, the hypocrisy of it is sickening.

Anybody ever heard of funeralgate? Look it up, it makes for a real interesting read, especially our President's (then governor) involvement.

This is disgusting; they have exploited these poor people over the last 4 years to make thier own ends meet, and now they end it with a grand spit on thier shoes.

Yes... blame bin Laden... and the people that funded and trained him. And the ones that trained his pilots and let them into the country. Oh wait. That would be the US government as well. No sense getting off on that rant. There are plenty of topics on here involving the governments conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism against the citizens of this country.
