I don't care, because I don't use Facebook, but isn't that hypocritical to complain of fake profiles when the whole purpose is data mining anyway?! How does one tell they are talking to a "sock puppet?"

Also, there have to be just plain old, paid trolls on fb (like there are on here (sshhhh)), just there to instigate...did they make it into the fake count?

FaceBook is a conscious being.

Hmmm... Michael Jackson's birthday. Care to elaborate on that, or is it just a coincidence...

I use it to look at the stuff folks somehow think I can't live without seeing. No way would I have a real one. I wouldn't miss that one if they shut it down either. Just gives me a good reason not to rush over and look at Rosemary's...er, I mean someone's baby.

So,you have a fake account to spy on people...but you won't have a real one because you think the government is spying on you?

Yes,I realize you didn't say that exactly..but this is ATS after all,so I'm sure that's why you don't have a "real" one.

A professionally developed sock puppet used by TPTB are almost impossible to spot. They'll appear just like any other profile, with email addresses that check out, other profiles elsewhere on the Web, and even blogs could be set up for it. You might get a 'gut feeling' that something's not right about another user, but that's about it.

I suspect there are also sock puppets here on ATS somewhere, but hey ho, that's how the game is played.

I usually frequent another board than here at ATS. Over there people brag they have over a thousand different profiles with pictures on each. By Liking content on one of the profiles, it becomes viral and generates more traffic to their money site. Same thing with Pinterest. All of it is automated where if you have a VPS with anonymous proxies, it will create a fake profile, with a pic and a randomly generated name. Go to fiverr and you'll see people selling 1000 likes for a page.

Nope. Not the reason at all. I am sure my personal info is spread across the internet like nobody's business.

I posted here why: www.abovetopsecret.com...

I had to have one to see photos people were sending me of their babies, weddings etc. I would prefer to never look at them, but then someone says, "Wasn't that dress pretty? How did you like that color? What's it called again?" Then you get caught out saying you looked, when you really didn't.

This is ATS and I do get paranoid about some things, but my info is already bought and sold too many times over to care at this point.
