you have geometry in a system simply because that is a fundamental part of the system. For example, to have a container we call existence, it must have a capacity and volume greater than zero.. It must have a dimensional value greater than zero. Geometry becomes often a fractal expression of nature, and you can see this all over nature. Just watch the video series "The Secret Life of Chaos"..
