OK, maybe she's only 11-years-old, but why would Harper Gruzins' parents let her sing the "Star Spangled Banner" like this anywhere but down in the family's basement? Disrespectful? Excusable?

She is 11! She tried her best.

Could you have done it better?

In case you hadn't noticed, she's 11 years old.

Get off her case.

Plenty of people have murdered renditions before, and will continue to do so.

I wonder what is more pathetic a young kid doing the best she can or a person who has nothing better to do then make a thread bashing her.

You probably wont take this advise but ditch the sad, petty, pathetic attitude.

If you want to see how a national anthem is truly destroyed, look at this horrendous performance of our national anthem by this guy.

He is not 11, so no exscuse.

i have to agree with the original poster on this one. here is why.

professional games or elite level games where the anthem is being played should have professional or elite level talent to open the game.

she does fine for a little league or for her school. she should put in a few of those to get use to being in front of an audience. the practice on the smaller venues would also help her to work on any weak points in her voice.

that is not to say there aren't any talented 11 year olds out there. there are. and they should be allowed to sing. this girl has courage and is willing to try. but she needs some more experience and training before undertaking an event like this.

I try to stay on topic but bad anthems are a real sore spot for me.

Forgive me for posting some comedic relief?

A part of me questions the wisdom and integrity of the adults that placed her in this position.

As for Harper....go girl go!!, well done

Now this is the worst rendition ever - no excuses.

I'm Australian, but I love the US anthem when it's sung right.

This is right (ignore the fact that it's NSync - just close your eyes, works for me):

Clearly you are tone deaf.

I agree with the OP. For a professional game there are much better singers at age 11. Nice to give her a go but not when people are paying for good entertainment.

Disrespectful?

Hardly disrespectful and hardly the worst rendition of the National Anthem ever sung. She's 11 for crying out loud and it could have just been a case of nerves singing infront of that large of a crowd. I'm willing to give her a break. I was not able to listen to anything past "by the dawn's early light", but I will at least give her some kudos for having the guts to get up and sing infront of a crowd.

As for the worst rendition ever, it would have to be Roseanne Barr's 'effort' at a Padres game several years back. Not only could she not sing it properly but her rude gesture after she was finished and spitting on the field in response to the boos she was receiving was truly disgusting to me. But that is just my opinion:

Anyone bashing this girl needs to get a grip. She is 11, she is not a pro. I am sure she probably has sung the song better at other times and this time she didn't. Practice makes perfect and she will probably have a few more moments like this along the way. It happens.

That being said, she is not in bad company, Christina Aguilera has bomb on the National Anthem, Steven Tyler has taken a beating (undeservedly so, I mean really thats how he sounds all the time when he sings. What did they expect?) and the list goes on and on.

For anyone who thinks Steven Tyler did the worst performance ever- you are either very young or you are a bit forgetful. Who can ever forget this gem of a performance..which is easily, hands down, the worst Anthem EVER!

I only hate it when certain black singers sing it.

Sometimes they go a little too far with the "....and the hoooooome of thuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhh brayyyyyyyyyooooooooooohhhhhhyyyeeeeeeaaaaaave aaayyyvvvve aaaaayyyyyvvvveeee eeeeeeyyyyyoooooooooo uuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh buuuuuurrrraaaaavvvee!!!"

I don't know why it is wrong 'bashing' an 11 year old for singing so badly that I had to switch off? Who chose her and why?
Whoever did should be blamed for her embarrassment. As for the bashing, the earlier you learn that you actually have to be good to earn praise, the better.
We are raising people who think they are brilliant and then cry when someone from the real world tells them the truth [see all those song idol programs]. That to me is more shameful than telling her to wait a couple of years and practice more.

HAHAHAHAHA that was absolutely terrible.

The problem is here, she cant sing and before anyone says MY GOD YOU ANIMAL SHES ONLY 11. Pretty sure I can find plenty of youtube videos of 11 year olds who can sing to a very high standard, so you know. Its a shame too because whats shes doing with her voice kinda suggests shes been watching far too many pop videos and trying to emulate whatever person is trendy right now, and failing very badly. Id have personaly booed her out the stadium.

The only thing worse about her singing is her parents decision to think this was infact a good idea, maybe they though she would become internet famous and sign a deal?, maybe do the talk show circuit?, sounds pretty suspect to me. Maybe we will see her soon enough on that show where people have talents after a bit of coaching.
