Second Temple Era Seal Unveiled The Israel Antiquities Authority unveiled a rare ancient seal that underscores the bond of the Jewish people to Jerusalem. By Gabe Kahn. First Publish: 12/25/2011, 1:11 PM The Israel Antiquities Authority held a special press conference in Jerusalem's City of David on Sunday to unveil a rare coin from the Second Temple era. The cartouche – or seal – never seen by the public before, is the size of the modern New Israeli Shekel coin and bears the Aramaic inscriptions “it is pure” and a two-letter abbreviation for the name of God.

It was discovered near the Robinson’s Arch at the southwestern corner of the Temple Mount. Archeologists say the soil layer above the Herodian road where the seal was found was dated to the first century BCE. Archaeologist Eli Shukron of the Antiquities Authority, and Professor Ronny Reich of Haifa University, who oversaw the excavation, explained to reporters the significance of the coin.

"This is the first time an object of this kind has been found. It is direct archaeological evidence of Jewish activity on the Temple Mount during the Second Temple era," they said. "Products being brought to the temple had to be stamped pure – which is what this seal was used for," they added. Such seals are mentioned in the Mishna and discussed in the Talmud – but the cartouche unveiled today does not match any of the four inscriptions included in extant texts.

"What we know is brought down from the surviving literature," the archeologists said. "Here archeology has brought us something new." Minister of Culture Limor Livnat and Minister of Education Gideon Saar joined dozens of students for the unveiling. Saar said, "The seal shows the deep connection of Israel to the City of David. It is important excavations like these that demonstrate our bond to Jerusalem. Everything uncovered here strengthens us." In addition to the seal other artifacts were discovered dating to Second Temple period, and some to the days of the Hasmoneans – such as oil lamps, cooking pots made of clay, a jug containing oils and perfumes, as well as coins of the Hasmonean kings such as Alexander Jannaeus and John Hyrcanus.

Isn't there something about the 'seals' being found or brough together that will cause some major occurence?

Cannot remember where I heard that from, but it kinda rings a bell for me somewhere in the darkness of my brain box..

Also, does the OP have no comments or nothing to contribute to the opening post in order to set more of a discussion up?
I was under the impression that's the point of starting a thread, and not simply quoting loads of off site text and posting a vid..
All that seems to have happened here is the entire news report has been copy/pasted..

oh dear..

Never takes long for those of the anti semetic persuasion to start jumping up and down.
They found an ancient coin and straight away its don't trust the Israelis, they're liars etc.
Wake up guys, not everyone has an agenda and there is good and bad in every race.
I will give the OP a star.

No input from the OP?..
Ok i'll bite. I bet this story is being plastered all over Israeli news stations.. whether this is a legit piece or not it hums good notes for the Israeli regime and bad ones for the Palestinians.

Israel need every bit of ammo they can get to justify (in the worlds eye) this inevitable war. No matter who is wrong or right in this fight its gonna go down and soon. Iran/Middle east in general is starting to look like a bit of a tomorrows Europe in a world war sense..

Well the opening of each of the Seven Seals of the Apocalypse bring about a major occurence.

Thing is they are 'discovered' all the time it seems... just like there has been many anti-christs discovered throughout history, etc. Would the real Slim Shady please stand up.

Considering the Land is the Jewish homeland, the Mount is the place of the Jewish Temple Mount and the archeological excavations are being carried out by Jews, under the auspices of a Jewish government, you'd better get used to the fact.

Some people are so paranoid they see conspiracies everywhere even when an archaeologist discovers an ancient artifact. I know this is a conspiracy site, but sometimes their just looking for something thats not there.

Well, of course. Nobody wants to see their illusions crumble before their eyes. Every single time *proof* is provided of God giving the Land of Israel to the Jewish people, another DNA strand of Israel's haters collapses. Weakening, weakening, weakening - till the roles are reversed. The haters become the dust, and the bones of the righteous dead literally are reborn. Yechezkel - Ezekiel - Chapter 37 it's all been prophesied.

I just don't see enough compelling evidence to believe it as truth. Since you're using the word proof and all.

It's a seal. A seal from the Holy Temple. Pure. Purity. Do you know what purity is? It means without contamination. It is absolute cleanliness and refinement. Something that has been cleaned, sieved, sifted, heated, washed in water, cleaned with oils, passed through smoke, prayed over and blessed.

God's idea of PURITY is not the same as man's. God wants our thoughts, bodies, words and actions to be clean. No perversions. Nothing tainted. To be at this level is to be considered God-like and holy. Vessels used in the Temple needed to be PURIFIED. The priests in the temple too needed to be ritually purified. Everything used in the Temple - from the candlesticks to the clothing to the vessels to the very STONES needed to be purified. In fact, in constructing the Temple, it was a commandment that no IRON or metal be used in the cutting of the stones so as not to introduce the energy of severity which war is derived from. So that the energy of the Temple will be pure, light-filled, and love-filled.

The idea of purity is one that is completely foreign to most people. They cannot conceive of an idea unless it pertains to pharmaceuticals or precious metals. But there are 4 elements and when communicating with God, all channels must be clear. That is the essence of pure. So this seal? This was what someone whose job it was to check for IMPURITIES would use as a stamp of approval when all the guidelines were met. Was the vessel without flaws? Were the oils clean and without insects or fungus? Were the first fruits brought for benediction clean from infestation? Were the cloths brought to sew the robes free from linen? As to have a mixture of flax and wool would render the cloth unwearable - going against the commandments set in (Leviticus 19:19 and Deuteronomy 22:5, 22:9–11). and so much more, it is an exact science - www.chabad.org...

That is my input on the subject at hand. The discovery of the seal of purity in Jerusalem. My thoughts on why this never made MSM headlines will be saved for another time.

Relax Mate, I don't see that as proof that God gave the land to the Jews. I see that someone found a coin or ancient seal. Be that as it may, people have no right to generalise over different races and their so called agendas.
Of all the Jewish people in the world, it is a small % that may be doing harm to the Jewish people's name. Just as it was a small % of the Irish that were IRA.
They need to stop generalising, not everyone is pulling the strings, most of us are the puppets being forced to dance.
Peace

Proof is the Jewish people themselves. Proof is their return to the Land. Proof is their surviving everything that's been thrown at them for 5,000 years. Proof is God watching over the Land of Israel and His Children. For all Time. You can't *see* this without a heart of flesh. A heart of jaded stone will not cut it.

I feel you should have wrote this and added this to your post earlier. I am not clued up with Ancient Jewish rituals or religious practices. I just get sick of reading all the anti - semetic comments as you may gather.
I have a soft spot for Judaism after finding out about 5 generations back I have German Jew ancestry.
Peace
