I agree its his business and they have the right to refuse service but i still think he's an Ignorant B******, The kind of person, that for his "stance" alone, i wouldn't want to associate with nor trade. No love lost.

This shop can provide service in a manner that they wish to. Ever see a sign posted like this "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Dice". Ever been to a restaurant with a dress code requiring a Jacket and tie? Ever see someone get bounced out of a bar for bad behavior? Some bakeries won't even bake cakes shaped like schlongs for bachelorette parties. My sister in law ran into that problem when planning my wife's party
She got creative on her own...

I'm tired of the whole politicization of the "gay movement". I support legal unions and equal benefits but I'm not crazy about the need to redefine the traditional meaning of a "marriage" and the demonizing of those who believe in a traditional marriage. That being said, I don't support the demonizing of gay people by the radical Christian element either. I am not a bigot for believing in a traditional marriage. In these recent cases the bigotry finger seems to be pointed back at the accusers. It takes two to play the tolerance game.

I don't think they'll win the fight when it comes to discriminating against them as customers, but I do think they will eventually become a protected class for employment and housing consideration.

Just where it matters...vote bank politics

This is hilarious..

So, a gay couple walks into a bakery, and blatently blurts out they are getting married, instead of, "hello, I need to order a wedding cake."

This to me is resembling a person who just has to let everyone know, no matter where he goes, that he is a ironworker!, or a vietnam veteran! (nothing wrong with this, but you don't have to shout it out on the mountain top..)

As if this is supposed to garner some kind of extra benefit, or an in your face declaration everyone must know about.. Especially a controversial lifestyle.. It isn't homophobia either, it is people standing up to perversion..There is nothing any gay person can ever do to force the whole world to support them and listen to their never ending tirade of self, and lifestyle promotion campaign..

The gay community is like the guy outside the monkey cage with the poking stick.. What in thee dante's hell do you expect!!??

It's not fair to those of us who believe in freedom of choice for business to have to see these threads over and over, with pages and pages of people tearing down an entire group and calling them entitled, dramatic, immoral, etc.

When the old lady sued McDonalds over the hot coffee incident, it didn't turn into having to hear about how evil old ladies are or how they are out for special treatment or to scam everyone's cash.

I really hate that; it's bad for the psyche, and for attempted faith in humanity. If you put entire groups of people into a box, the one you'll be put into is labelled Daft.

If every shop and business and company had to shut down because the owner disagreed with someone, everyone would starve to death and human civilization would come to an end.

So someone doesn't agree with gay marriage, big deal.

In Colorado as in 28 other states, it is 100% Legal to refuse service to gay people.. just simply because they are gay.

You are free to have your beliefs. We're free to refuse to give you our money because we find your beliefs reprehensible. It's the American way to vote with your money.

All fine and good but they chose to take it further than "not giving money" and going to another cake shop. They chose to make a big stink about it on FACEbook as well as with the press. Clearly just seeking attention.

This guy didn't refuse service to these two men "because they were gay" he refused service because he believes in the traditional definition of marriage between a woman and a man.

NO IT IS NOT THE SAME THING

He already stated he would have been fine with selling them a birthday cake, or a graduation cake, so he doesn't have a problem "serving gay people" in that respect.

He simply draws a line when a gay couple requests a wedding cake, because supporting a gay marriage would contradict a core belief of his.

(i'm not being argumentative with you here, just using your quote because if you check his facebook page you can clearly see that nearly everyone has jumped on the "you hate gay people" bandwagon.. when it obviously is not true.)

Well yeah it sort of is the same thing.. read the link. In these 29 states service can be refused to anyone if the shop owner doesn't agree with the persons sexual orientation, be it gay, straight or Other. To me that ties right in with perceptions of traditional marriage. They go hand in hand because traditional marriage is Only thought of between straight couples.

I'm not sure, but did you just lump me in with Mr. Cake Owner as a "gay hater" ?

That was a pretty polarizing comment... which ironically is how the hate REALLY gets going.

Why does everything have to be "It's you against me!"

This kind of divisive attitude is the real problem here. Not some guy who won't sell a cake to someone because he supports traditional views on marriage.

Ironically, It's exactly what I alluded to in my post you referenced. That all the "hate" is really comingfrom the people angered by one man's personal opinion!

I see what you're saying. You have to make a distinction here though. And I think it's pretty clear in this case.

The owner is willing to serve gay people. Fact.
The only stipulation enters when said gay person(s) want to purchase a specific item.. in this case a wedding cake.
He has no issue with gay people, other than that he holds a specific view relative to their marriage. For that to be used to turn this guy into a raging homophobic kkk member is total BS.

So are you saying people don't deserve to know that this shop owner might refuse to serve them or their loved ones?

It goes both ways. It is fine, it is called personal business.

www.creativeminorityreport.com...

A San Francisco gay bar has banned bachelorette parties, saying "any celebration of straight marriage" is banned, according to LA Weekly.

www.queerty.com...

Apparently at Wang’s, a gay bar in Chicago‘s Boystown gayborhood, the posted policy has been to ban women after 11pm
