We have very diverse cultures in South Africa.

Any music from SA is welcome.

An Afrikaans pop song.

Maybe some would say it is 'lower class" and "common"?

I enjoy this song very much.

I lost my heart to a country.

The most fantastic country on the planet.

Brenda Fassie - Vulindlela.

This song had the whole country dancing.

From what I hear it's a wedding song along the lines of: Open the gates, today I'm getting married, and all the old gossips said it would never happen, but today I'm getting married.

We had unforgettable fun to this song:

Beautiful song and harmonizing from a home.
History going back to Java in Indonesia.
The Cape Malays were forced into slavery back then, and many ended up in the Cape.
They also brought Islam to SA, and the first Afrikaans was apparently written in Arabic.

Old school Ipi Tombi routine from Israel.

The musical remains controversial, although all the songs are still much loved.
Liberation movements felt it stereotyped black South Africans and blamed their troubles on tribal feuds and natural disasters, rather than apartheid.

Whatever the case, it launched the careers of many stars, and it is still played occasionally to full-houses in SA:

A more recent performance: The Warrior:

OK I'm "zef" (common but cool).

Robbie Wessels - Liewe Ouers (Dear Parents).

Part cringe, part homoerotic turn-on, part common, and part proudly SA.

Typical!

I'll still be humming it next week.

A very strange accent, but a nice version of the song!

The meaning of the song had to remain hidden for many years.
Hence this version:

Don't mind about the historical flag, it's our pride vs. British.
