Wow, I remember her going into space for the first time. It is sad to hear about this. I was not even aware that she was sick.

R.I.P. Sally

Sally’s historic flight into space captured the nation’s imagination and made her a household name. She became a symbol of the ability of women to break barriers and a hero to generations of adventurous young girls.

I know. I am really shocked at this. As I said I had not even heard she was sick. It makes me sad because I remember as a kid her going into space and hearing her name. Even then I had a feeling of how historic her actions were.

Sally Ride and Christa McAuliff were my heroes when I was a child.
Sad.

She refused a bouquet of flowers on the crews arrival in Houston after her first flight... She wouldn't accept accolades given to her (just because she was a woman) that weren't given to the rest of the crew. I think that's cool.

RIP Sally. You were a pioneer!

That does cause one to respect her a lot. She wanted to be equal with the rest of the crew.

I like that story about nopt accepting the flowers. Didn't know that. There was something special about her. Big up side to the girl.

It was Sally Ride who suggested putting a webcam on GRAIL, so that young people could participate directly in space exploration. Rest In Peace, Sally.

She was a childhood hero of mine.

I was so sad when I read about her passing. Condolences to her partner, family and friends.
